    Priya Arumuganathan, MD

    Dr. Priya Arumuganathan is a Penn Global Emergency Medicine Fellow and an Instructor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at Penn Medicine. She is from Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, and completed her medical school and residency training at West Virginia University. While there, she completed the Global Health Track, served as a Chief Resident, and conducted telestroke research within rural critical access hospitals. Her rural background and training have helped her to build a foundation for working in low-resource environments. Currently, her work in Global Emergency Medicine involves creating emergency medicine curriculum and helping to build emergency care capacity.

    Dr. Michaeli is an attending emergency medicine physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts and a fellow in Global Emergnecy Medicine. She completed residency in emergency medicine at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She completed medical school at the University of Texas School of Medicine at San Antonio and her Master of Public Health degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She has a strong interest in strengthening global emergency care systems through the design, adaptation, and implemention of emergency tools and training for local frontline providers in regions affected by conflict and humanitarian crises. She has recently worked with in Liberia, Kenya, Malawi, Somalia, and Ukraine.

    Amanda Irish is an Emergency Medicine faculty physician at the University of Iowa. She completed her International Emergency Medicine Global Health Fellowship at Prisma Health (formerly Palmetto Health) Midlands/University of South Carolina School of Medicine-Columbia. She has demonstrated a lifelong interest in international medicine and has been involved in a variety of research and education projects in low-resource settings over the years. She enjoys working with and teaching others how to positively and sustainably impact health systems and is excited to be involved with WHO-ICRC Basic Emergency Care.

    Dr. Joy Mackey is the Director of the Global Health and International Emergency Medicine Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, Deputy Ambassador to Belize for the American College of Emergency Physicians and Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine for the Henry JN Taub Department of Emergency Medicine. She has worked to develop emergency medicine in Central America and the Pacific, particularly focusing on capacity building and educational initiatives in Belize. This has included the nationwide introduction of the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Emergency Triage Assessment and Treatment (ETAT) and Basic Emergency Care (BEC) train-the-trainer curriculum in Belize.

    Dr. Boaglio grew up in the Pacific Northwest, in the small town of Longview, Washington. He graduated summa cum laude from Pacific Lutheran University. He received his medical degree from Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2017 and completed his Emergency Medicine Residency training at Stony Brook University Hospital, serving as Chief Resident in 2020. He completed a Global Emergency Medicine fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, working in resident education at Georgetown Public Hospital in Guyana, South America and earning a Master's of Applied Science in Humanitarian Health from Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene at the Gorgas Institute in Lima, Peru. His areas of academic interest are Emergency Medicine development and education, simulation and procedural education, critical care, humanitarian health, and tropical medicine.

  • Maham Munawar, DO

    Maham Munawar, DO was born and raised near Houston, TX. She went to the University of Texas at Austin for undergraduate studies. She completed medical school after receiving her Master's degree in Medical Sciences, both at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, TX. She completed her Emergency Medicine residency training at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, IL. She joined the Penn Emergency Medicine community as a Global Medicine Fellow and Instructor in July 2023.

    Maham's academic and professional interests include global emergency systemic development,
    women's health, nutritional/preventative medicine, health policy, and medical education. She
    is also passionate about wellness and mentorship. Current global health projects are related to systems development and education in various countries, including Iraq, Pakistan, and Botswana.

  • Sandra Schneider, MD

    American College of Emergency Physicians

    Sandra M. Schneider, MD, FACEP, is currently the Senior Vice President for Clinical Affairs at ACEP and Adjunct Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. She was the founding Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine and Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Rochester. After leaving Rochester, she was a Professor of Emergency Medicine at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine and Senior Research Director for the North Shore LIJ Department of Emergency Medicine.

    Dr. Schneider is a past president of ACEP, SAEM, and AACEM. She is also a past chair of the Residency Review Committee for Emergency Medicine and the Emergency Medicine Foundation, and served on the Executive Committee of the NAEMSP . She is the author of over 100 peer reviewed manuscripts, as well as multiple other articles and chapters. Dr. Schneider has won multiple awards, including the Leadership Award from the SAEM, the Lifetime Service Award from AACEM and the Wiegenstein Award from the ACEP. She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and certified by ABEM and ABIM.

  • Deborah B. Diercks, MD, MSc, MBA

    UT Southwestern

    Dr. Deborah Diercks joined the faculty at UT Southwestern Medical Center in 2014. She completed her residency at University of Cincinnati Medical Center and obtained a Master of Science from Harvard. Her clinical research interests have included the diagnosis and management of patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome and congestive heart failure who present to the emergency department. She has been involved in both single center and multi-center trials in both of these areas.

    Dr. Diercks has collaborated in studies involving the identification of acute coronary syndrome in the emergency department, including the use of cardiac injury markers and novel electrocardiogram techniques, and has done work evaluating observation unit care of the chest pain patient. She has participated in therapeutic trials for congestive heart failure and acute coronary syndrome.

    Over the past several years, Dr. Diercks has participated in a number of national acute coronary syndrome symposia. She is active in Emergency Medicine serving on many ACEP committees and has been on the Board of Directors for the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine. She is active within the American College of Cardiology and serves on the Editorial Boards for Circulation and Academic Emergency Medicine. She has received awards for the Advancement of Women in Academic Emergency Medicine and Advancement of the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine.

  • David W. Wright, MD

    Emory University

    Dr. Wright, is the tenured Professor & Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. He directs the Center for Innovation and Discovery in the Acute and Emergent Sciences (IDEAS) and the Emergency Neurosciences Clinical Laboratory in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He was the former Director of the Injury Prevention Research Center at Emory and Grady from 2014-2018. He is a board certified emergency medicine physician practicing at Emory affiliated hospitals and Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta’s premier Level 1 Trauma Center. He is actively involved in both the preclinical and clinical assessments of traumatic brain injury, stroke and other acute neurological conditions. He is holds adjunct appointments in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, the Rollins School of Public Health, and the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing.

    University of Michigan Emergency Medicine

    Steve Maxwell is the chief administrator for the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Michigan.

    He has administrative responsibility for the research, education and clinical missions for Emergency Medicine including the Survival Flight Program.

    He joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2014 after previously serving in the Frankel Cardiovascular Center and as the administrator for the Section of General Surgery.

    Among his achievements, he played a role in developing the research infrastructure to support the #1 NIH ranking 4 of the last 6 years for departments of Emergency Medicine, coordinating the administrative support to execute the $7 million Massey Traumatic Brain Injury Research Program; was instrumental in opening the Emergency Critical Care Center in University Hospital; and spearheaded the acquisition of a new patient transport jet and three helicopters for the Survival Flight Program.

  • James J. McCarthy, MD, MHA

    Memorial Hermann Health System

    Dr. James “Jamie” McCarthy currently serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Physician Executive for the Memorial Hermann Health System. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the physician organization and further establishing Memorial Hermann’s goal to build a physician-centric, integrated network of care. He has executive oversight and responsibility for MHMD, Memorial Hermann’s clinically-integrated physician network, the Memorial Hermann Medical Group, as well as Population Health Services, Care and Case Management, Hospital-Based Physicians, Credentialing, Quality and Safety. He also serves as the senior physician leader of Clinical Care Redesign, a sweeping revamp of Memorial Hermann’s care delivery model.

    Prior to joining MHH, Dr. McCarthy served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at McGovern Medical School. Dr. McCarthy was also Chief of Emergency Medical Services for Memorial Hermann-TMC, home to the Red Duke Trauma Institute, the nation’s busiest Level I trauma center, as well as Memorial Hermann Life Flight®, the system’s signature air ambulance service. Under his leadership, the Department has been recognized regionally and nationally for Trauma, Stroke and Cardiac Care.

    Dr. McCarthy completed his medical degree at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, his internship and residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and his Masters in Health Care Administration at the University of Providence. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services.

    On a local and state level, Dr. McCarthy has been an advocate for emergency services, serving as a member of the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council (SETRAC), where he is the medical director of the SETRAC Cardiac Care Committee. He is also serving as Chair of the Governor’s EMS and Trauma Advisory Council’s Cardiac Care Committee under the Texas Department of State Health Services.

    In addition to his professional commitments, Dr. McCarthy serves as EMS Medical Director for the West University Place Fire Department and as an un-affiliated neurotrauma consultant for the National Football League.

    Andra L. Blomkalns, MD, MBA, Stanford Medicine Professor in Emergency Medicine and the Redlich Family Professor, Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine

    Dr. Andra Blomkalns is a national leader and an innovation advocate who promotes that the best patient-centered programs depend upon clinical practice innovation, continuous data-driven improvement, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Prior to Stanford, Dr. Blomkalns served as Division Chief of General Emergency Medicine and Vice Chair for Academic Affairs and Business Development at University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Department of Emergency Medicine. Reflecting her dual passions for patient care and innovation, she also served on the Intellectual Property Advisory Committee and was the clinical liaison to the Office for Technology Development. Prior to UTSW, Dr. Blomkalns served as Program Director and later Vice Chair of Education where she trained in Emergency Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. She earned her undergraduate degree from Rice University, medical degree from Louisiana State Health Sciences Center, and also holds a Master’s in Business Administration specializing in innovation and entrepreneurship from the University of Texas.

  • Brian Zink
    Brian J. Zink, MD

    Adjunct Professor and Senior Advisor

    Brian J. Zink, MD, is Adjunct Professor and Senior Advisor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School. Dr. Zink's primary areas of focus are faculty and leadership development, mentoring and coaching, medical humanities, and the history of emergency medicine. Earlier in his career he was a researcher in alcohol effects in traumatic brain injury and shock. Dr. Zink wrote the first comprehensive history of US emergency medicine. After serving as the Associate Dean for Student Programs at Michigan, he was selected as the inaugural Chair of Emergency Medicine at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Chief of Emergency Medicine at Rhode Island Hospital and served in this role for 12 years. He was on the Board of Directors of the Lifespan Health System. Dr. Zink has served as the President of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM, 2000), the Association of Academic Chairs of Emergency Medicine (AACEM, 2012), and the SAEM Foundation (2021). He founded and is Co-Director of the SAEM/AACEM Chair Development Program. Dr. Zink has received the Hal Jayne Academic Excellence Award and John Marx Leadership Award from SAEM, the Outstanding Contribution in Education Award from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), and the Distinguished Service Award from AACEM. He practiced EM in academic hospital emergency departments for 36 years. In 2024 he formed Brian J. Zink Coaching and Consulting, LLC, and is now focused on growing and developing the next generation of leaders in academic medicine.

  • Neha P. Raukar, MD MS CAQSM

    Mayo Clinic & Mayo Clinic Health System

    Dr. Raukar is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair for Academic Advancement and Faculty Development within the Department of Emergency Medicine at Mayo Clinic Rochester. She is actively involved in the teaching and supervision of medical students and residents and is also interested in resident and faculty education, development, wellness, burnout and resilience. She is particularly interested in finding solutions unique to women in medicine. As a grant funded researcher in these areas, she has presented at several national meetings on these topics and especially the use of coaching to enhance physician and learner engagement.
    Her areas of scholarship are in sports and emergency medicine and has served on national committees creating policies to ensure the health and safety of athletes. Her sideline experiences include caring for athletes of all levels and ages including high school, college, professional, masters, Olympic, and extreme athletes. She has worked with the US Ski and Snowboard Team, the UCI BMX team, the Winter Dew Tour, the Women's US Golf Tour, and mass participation events. Her primary areas of research focus are innovations to mitigate life threatening injuries in athletes. She was a member of the Institute of Medicine/National Academy of Science Committee on Sports Related Concussion in Youth and served on the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee for the National Federation of State High School Associations.

    Donna Okoli is a Medical Education Fellow at the University of Michigan and serves as an Assistance Clerkship Director for the Emergency Medicine Clerkship. Her research interests are in curriculum development, leadership and advocacy, and diversity equity and inclusion. She is a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed residency training in Emergency Medicine at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois, where she also served as chief resident in the 2022-2023 academic year. Donna Okoli is a native New Mexican and graduate of the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biochemistry. Donna spent two years as a corps member for the organization Teach for America, teaching high school chemistry at an under resourced public school.

    Will Peterson has an academic interest in Medical Education and Methodology. He is currently the Clerkship Director at the University of Minnesota. He previously directed the Residency Preparatory Course for students going into Emergency Medicine and co-directed the Clinical Reasoning Elective for M1 Medical Students.

    His research interest is focused on improving education curricula for medical students and residents, and utilizing rigorous qualitative and quantitative methodology in education research.

    I completed residency at East Carolina University/Brody School of Medicine and fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at University of Michigan. Since completion of my fellowship I have worked at University of Michigan, Department of Emergency Medicine in both the Children's and Adult Emergency Departments. I have served as the Clerkship Director and Director of Medical Student Education in the Department of Emergency Medicine since 2011. During my tenure I have also held several other rolls including, Assistant Program Director, Director of Interprofessional Education, and currently serve as the President of Clerkship Directors of Emergency Medicine (CDEM).

    Kendall McKenzie, MD is a Professor of Emergency Medicine and serves as Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He is the Executive Director of the TelEmergency Program at UMMC. Dr. McKenzie has fellowship training in EMS and Disaster Medicine. He recently completed a 25-year career with the US Army. His ultimate position was that of State Surgeon for the MSARNG.
