The Clerkship Directors in Emergency Medicine (CDEM) is the national organization representing undergraduate medical education in emergency medicine. CDEM was formed in 2008 and became the first Academy of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM). CDEM is comprised of medical student educators who are committed to enhancing medical student education within our specialty.

Clerkship Directors Boot CampMay 10, 2022 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM (Central Daylight Time)There are many skills required of emergency medicine clerkship directors, including developing a curriculum that covers learning objectives; training residents and faculty to reliably assess students; and providing career advice for home and visiting students. Clerkship directors are also beholden to many masters: the medical school, the department, and students as learners and advisees. In addition, clerkship directors are often responsible for maintaining and documenting compliance with accreditation standards, especially during Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) visits. This workshop will address vital skills for running a successful clerkship and navigating common pitfalls.

Medical Student SymposiumMay 12, 2022 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM (Central Daylight Time)This Medical Student Symposium serves as an overview of emergency medicine (EM) and the application and match process for applicants of allopathic, osteopathic, international and military backgrounds. In this day-long session, thought leaders in the specialty discuss the process of applying for an EM residency position. The session includes specific discussions about clerkships, away rotations, personal statements, the match process, and interviews. Ample time is provided for questions and discussions during a lunch with EM program directors and clerkship directors. (RAMS Sponsored)
