  • Andrew L. Chu, MD, MPH, MBA

    Stanford University

    Dr. Chu is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University. He has co-led multi-disciplinary teams in designing, developing, and launching award winning digital solutions that help physicians manage life threatening emergencies at the point-of-care. His current academic interests include evaluating and executing promising academic-industry partnerships, conducting AI and LLM research, and integrating innovation principles and design thinking into the residency curriculum. As a first-generation college student who grew up in a low-income immigrant family, Dr. Chu is also passionate about diversity in medicine and increasing opportunities for disadvantaged communities. Dr. Chu earned an MD from Boston University. He completed his applied research fellowship training in healthcare innovation and residency in emergency medicine at Harvard (MGH/BWH). He is currently a Stanford Biodesign Faculty Fellow for 2023-2024.

  • Nicole L. Nadeau, MD

    Massachusetts General Hospital

    Nicole is a specialized Pediatric Emergency Medicine Attending in the pediatric emergency department of MassGeneral for Children. She grew up in the Northeast and attended College of the Holy Cross where she earned a BA in Spanish with a pre-medical concentration. She spent a year of college studying in Spain, where she learned to speak Spanish. She attended Holy Cross on an Air Force ROTC scholarship and, after graduation, was active duty at Edwards Air Force Base in California where she helped to lead disaster preparedness for the base. Nicole left the Air Force to pursue medicine and returned home to attend the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She then completed her residency in pediatrics at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, where she also served as chief resident. She went on to complete her fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Boston Children's Hospital. In fellowship Nicole became deeply interested in quality improvement and patient safety. She now has joined MassGeneral for Children as full-time faculty, where she continues to focus on quality improvement, working collaboratively with both the Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine departments. Her clinical interests include diagnostic challenges in the emergency room and development/utilization of clinical pathways to decrease unnecessary variation in the care of pediatric patients, decreasing resource utilization while improving outcomes.


  • Jeffrey R. Heiferman, MD

    Loyola University

    Dr. Jeffrey Heiferman is the residency simulation director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Loyola University Medical Center (LUMC). He also serves as core faculty of the LUMC Emergency Medicine Simulation Fellowship. Dr. Heiferman is an emergency medicine physician at LUMC, where he holds a primary academic appointment in the Department of Emergency Medicine and a secondary academic appointment in the Department of Medical Education. Dr. Heiferman completed both his emergency medicine residency and simulation fellowship at LUMC.

  • Kristyn J. Smith, DO, FAAEM

    Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania

    Kristyn J. Smith, DO is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). Additionally, she is the Sub-internship Director for the Emergency Medicine 4th year medical student rotation. Dr. Smith has introduced iniatitives aimed at diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the emergency department through Lift Every Voice – an anonymous platform used to catalyze anti-racism change in hospital settings. She holds several local and national leadership positions in emergency medicine. Previously, she was a National Alumni Board Member for the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) and a Leadership Fellow in the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). Currently, she is Chair-Elect for the American Academy of Emergency Medicine's (AAEM) Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Section (JEDI). Dr. Smith was recently awarded the Marcus Martin Award/Scholarship, which acknowledges signifcant achievement in DEI, through the Council of Residency Directors in Emergency Medicine (CORD).

    Dr. Smith completed her residency at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. During residency, Dr. Smith founded the health equity in emergency medicine journal club. This earned her the 2021 Dr. William & Margaret E. Menin Humanistic Sensitivity Award and the Emergency Medicine Residency Program Humanitarian Award. Throughout her medical school career, Kristyn was heavily involved in the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) serving as chapter president at the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine and co-chair of the National Osteopathic Schools Committee. Under her leadership, the chapter won the 2015 Rowan University Excellence in Diversity Award and National SNMA Chapter of the Year.

  • Nana Serwaa A. Quao, MBChB, MGCS, MPH

    Korle Bu Teaching Hospital

    Dr. Nana Serwaa Agyeman Quao, an Emergency Physician at the Accident and Emergency Centre, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the forefront of emergency medicine. Having completed her residency programme in Emergency Medicine at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, Ghana, Dr. Quao's journey in medicine has been marked by a dedication to excellence and a commitment to advancing patient care.

    Dr. Quao's academic journey began at the School of Medical Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana, where she earned her medical degree in 2012. Her thirst for knowledge led her to pursue a master’s degree in public health from the School of Public Health at the University of Ghana, further enhancing her understanding of healthcare systems and population health dynamics.

    Beyond her clinical duties, Dr. Quao is deeply involved in shaping the educational landscape of Emergency Medicine at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, which recently inaugurated its emergency medicine residency program. In her capacity, she collaborates closely with the residency coordinator, playing a pivotal role in overseeing the development and implementation of the residency curriculum.

    Dr. Quao's passion for teaching and research is palpable, as she actively works towards building research capacity in global health among healthcare professionals. Her research endeavours are wide-ranging, encompassing patient-oriented studies with a particular emphasis on emergency care research, acute trauma care, injury prevention, point-of-care ultrasound, medical education, and patient flow management. Through her relentless pursuit of knowledge and innovation, Dr. Quao continues to make significant contributions to the field of emergency medicine, striving to improve outcomes and elevate standards of care on both local and global scales.
