    Megan Rybarczyk, MD is from Muncie, Indiana and graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a major in the Biological Sciences and a minor in Anthropology. She received her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed her residency training in emergency medicine at Boston Medical Center, serving her final year as a chief resident. She completed the Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship at the Harvard/Brigham and Women's Hospital Program, with a focus on education/curriculum development, EM program development, and emergency care systems development. Her experiences in the field of global health have involved clinical work, research, and/or education all over the world, and her research and academic interests are currently focused on EM education and training, particularly in low resource settings. She is currently the Academic Lead for the Certification Program in Emergency Medicine (CPEM) running in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Now at Penn, she is the Global EM Fellowship Director, and she is working to develop Global EM programming within the Department of Emergency Medicine and across the institution.

    She has been an active member of GEMA for many years and she most recently served on the GEMA Global Engagement Committee, the WHO/ICRC BEC Course Workshop Task Force, the Fellowship Committee, and the GEMA Global EM Resources Handout Task Force. She has also been on the Business Meeting Planning Committee in the past. Additionally, she has served as Secretary to the Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship Consortium (GEMFC) for the last two years. Finally, she is also a member of AWAEM.

    Kristen Dettorre is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and serves as the Global EM Fellowship director. She spends the majority of her global time teaching/training resident physicians at the public hospital in Georgetown, Guyana.

    Nichole Michaeli is an International Emergency Medicine Fellow at Brigham and Women's Hospital. She is currently working on emergency care systems development in Liberia and Kenya.

    Peter Pruitt, MD, MS

    Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine

    Dr. Pruitt is an assistant professor of emergency medicine at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Maryland, a Master of Science from Northwestern University, and completed residency training at the Brigham and Women's/Massachusetts General Hospital Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency (HAEMR). This was followed by an Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)-sponsored T32 fellowship in health services and outcomes research at Northwestern University.

    Dr. Pruitt’s research focuses on improving processes of care for emergency department patients, especially those with neurologic emergencies. He has a related area of interest in patient risk stratification, especially the creation and validation of clinical decision tools. In 2018 Dr. Pruitt received the SAEM Foundation Research Training Grant for his work to create a clinical decision tool for patients with subdural hematoma and preserved consciousness. He currently studies the interhospital transfer process with support from AHRQ.

    Joseph Pare, MD

    Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University

    Dr. Joseph R. Pare, MD, MHS, is an assistant professor of emergency medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and serves as the director of ultrasound research for his department. Dr. Pare received his medical degree in emergency medicine from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and a Master of Health Science degree from Yale University. Dr. Pare completed residency at Boston University Medical Center followed by a two-year combined research and ultrasound fellowship at Yale University. 

    Dr. Pare has been awarded several institutional and foundation grants to conduct research on point-of-care ultrasound and has published numerous original research manuscripts in his field of expertise. He is a previous recipient of the Academy of Emergency Ultrasound (AEUS) Rising Star in Research Award and is the co-chair of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) EUS Research Subcommittee.

  • Judith Linden, MD

    Judith Linden, MD is executive Vice Chair in the Department of Emergency Medicine and Professor of Emergency Medicine at BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. She has devoted her career to identifying, documenting and addressing inequities in Emergency Medicine leadership and salary for women and minoritized faculty. She has researched and published on the topic. She is passionate about mentoring and sponsoring women and URiM for leadership training and positions. She believes that diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in our faculty, trainees and staff is crucial for creating a vibrant community where all feel welcome and empowered to contribute to our mission.
    She is active in the Academy for Women in Academic Emergency Medicine and key SAEM committees devoted to increasing diversity and belonging in Emergency Medicine.

  • Nathan Irvin, MD, MSHPR

    Dr. Irvin is an assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He earned a medical degree at Harvard in 2003. Following medical school, he completed a residency in emergency medicine at Alameda Health System’s Highland Hospital in Oakland, California, where he was a chief resident, prior to graduating in 2011.

    Upon completion of residency, Dr. Irvin entered into the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Clinical Scholars Program at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2013 with a master's degree in health policy research.

    Dr. Irvin holds interests in social emergency medicine and addressing many of the health and behavioral problems that affect people living in urban communities. Two such threats are HIV/AIDs and violence. He is currently the clinical director of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Emergency Department HIV/HCV screening program, working to identify and get people with new diagnoses of HIV linked into care. Additionally, he is engaged in work related to youth violence prevention and endeavors to develop a trauma-informed, hospital-based violence intervention program.

    Dr. Hani Mowafi, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor, Chief of the Section of Global Health in the Department of Emergency Medicine and he serves as the Director of the Yale-London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Fellowship in Global Health and International Emergency Medicine. Dr. Mowafi's work focuses on developing the science and practice of emergency care with emphasis on low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where the burden of emergency conditions is highest and where there is a large unmet need for emergency care.

    Eleanor Reid, MD, PhD

    Dr. Eleanor Reid is an assistant professor of emergency medicine (EM) at the Yale School of Medicine. She specializes in EM and global health, with specific focus on EM development and global palliative care. She is a graduate of Brown University, received her MD from Albany Medical College, and completed her EM residency at the Harvard Affiliated EM Residency at Brigham and Women's and Massachusetts General Hospitals.
