Mike Hrdy, MDChildren's Hospital of Philadelphia
I am an assistant professor in the division of pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. I have been developing and facilitating simulation sessions since my PEM fellowship and simulation is at the core of my academic career.
I have worked with the Simulation Academy since 2018 and as a result I have facilitated four Simulation Academy-sponsored workshops at national meetings and co-authored two simulation education publications, with several exciting collaborations still in process. I’ve also helped develop (and act) in cases for SimWars 2019 and I can’t wait for in-person SimWars to start again.
Outside of the Simulation Academy, SAEM has been incredibly beneficial to my career development. Through participation in the Advanced Research Methodology Evaluation and Design in Medical Education (ARMED MedEd) course I have developed my medical education research skills and I’ve been able to turn the simulation activities that I was already doing into scholarly output.
Simply put, I’m running for a position on the Executive Committee to give back to the Academy that has already given me so much. I hope that through the development and refinement of a mentor-mentee structure in the Academy that the amazing collection of practical knowledge and hard-earned wisdom of senior members of the Academy can be shared with newer members to strengthen the next generation of emergency medicine simulation educators. -
