Step 1: Complete the nomination form. Within each form, you can submit a self-nomination or nominate another member.
For those submitting a self-nomination, be prepared to include a candidate statement and submit a headshot (jpg, high-resolution photo taken in the last 2 years) within the form.

Responsibilities and Requirements
SAEM Board of Directors
- SAEM President-Elect
- Be a current, active* member of SAEM
- Be willing to serve a one-year term followed by a one-year term as President, and then another as Immediate Past President
- Attend all Board of Directors meetings each year
- Serve as the Chair of the Nominating Committee and the Council of Academy Leaders (COAL)
- Be knowledgeable about SAEM’s mission and programs
- Participate in promoting, sustaining, and building the mission of SAEM
- Contribute to SAEM’s development
- SAEM Secretary-Treasurer
- Be a current, active* member of SAEM
- Be willing to serve a one-year term (with eligibility to serve an additional one-year term)
- Attend all Board of Directors meetings each year
- Serve as a member of the Finance Committee
- Be knowledgeable about SAEM’s mission and programs
- Participate in promoting, sustaining, and building the mission of SAEM
- Contribute to SAEM’s development
- SAEM Member-at-Large
- Be a current, active* member of SAEM
- Be willing to serve a three-year term (with eligibility to serve an additional three-year term)
- Attend all Board of Directors meetings each year
- Be or become knowledgeable about SAEM’s mission and programs
- Participate in promoting, sustaining, and building the mission of SAEM
- Contribute to SAEM’s development
- SAEM Resident Member
- Be a current, resident* member of SAEM
- Be willing to serve a one-year term (with eligibility to serve an additional one-year term)
- Be a resident at an approved emergency medicine residency program at the time of election and during the one-year term
- Attend all Board of Directors meetings each year
- Be or become knowledgeable about SAEM’s mission and programs
- Participate in promoting, sustaining, and building the mission of SAEM
- Contribute to SAEM’s development
Resident and Medical Students (RAMS) Board
- President
- Be a current member of SAEM
- Be willing to serve a one-year term followed by a one-year term as Immediate Past President
- Attend all RAMS Board meetings
- Set the agenda and preside at all RAMS Board meetings
- Report the RAMS Board actions/accomplishments to the SAEM Board of Directors on a quarterly basis
- Report on actions of the RAMS Board to SAEM Resident and Medical Student Members
- Represent the interests of the SAEM Resident and Medical Student members
- Appoint committees, ad hoc committees, and/or task forces in conjunction with the RAMS Board as needed to accomplish the mission and goals of the RAMS Board
- RAMS Secretary-Treasurer
- Be a current member of SAEM
- Attend all RAMS Board meetings
- Be willing to serve a one-year term
- Serve as President in the absence of the President of the RAMS Board
- Ensure that minutes are taken and distributed for RAM Board meetings
- Oversee and report to the RAMS Board regarding the RAMS financial records
- Represent the interests of the SAEM Resident and Medical Student members
- Assist with other duties as may be assigned the President of the RAMS Board
- RAMS Members-at-Large
- Attend all RAMS Board meetings
- Be willing to serve a one-year term
- Serve as a SAEM Committee Liaison
- Represent the interests of the SAEM Resident and Medical Student members
- Assist with other duties as may be assigned the President of the RAMS Board
- RAMS Medical Student
- Attend all RAMS Board meetings
- Be willing to serve a one-year term
- Serve as a SAEM Committee Liaison
- Represent the interests of the SAEM Resident and Medical Student members
- Assist with other duties as may be assigned the President of the RAMS Board
Association of Academic Chairs of Emergency Medicine (AACEM) Executive Committee
- Member-at-Large
- Be a current, active** member of AACEM
- Be willing to serve a two-year term with an automatic succession to a one-year term for each officer position (Secretary-Treasurer, President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past-President). Total term commitment is six years
- Attend all Executive Committee meetings each year
- Be or become knowledgeable about AACEM’s mission and programs
SAEM Foundation Board of Trustees
- President-Elect
- Take an active role in raising funds to support the programs of the Foundation
- Attend all Board meetings
- Be willing to serve a one-year term, followed by a one-year term as President, and then another as Immediate Past President
- Assist the President in the discharge of the duties of the President as the President may direct and perform such other duties consistent with the office of President-Elect as may be assigned from time to time by the Board of Trustees
- In the absence of the Foundation President, the President-Elect shall preside at meetings of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees
- Represent the Foundation in activities related to academic emergency medicine
- Serve as a voting member of the Nominations Committee
- Secretary-Treasurer
- Take an active role in raising funds to support the programs of the Foundation
- Attend all Board meetings
- Be willing to serve a one-year term
- Keep the minutes of the meetings of the Board of Trustees in one or more books provided for that purpose
- See that all notices are duly given, in accordance with the provisions of these bylaws or as required by law
- Represent the Foundation in activities related to academic emergency medicine
- Be a custodian of the corporate records, and in general, perform all duties incident to the office of SAEM Foundation
- Members-at-Large
- Take an active role in raising funds to support the programs of the Foundation
- Be willing to serve a two-year term (with eligibility to serve an additional two-year term)
- Attend all Board meetings
- Represent the Foundation in activities related to academic emergency medicine
SAEM Nominating Committee
- Be a current, active* member of SAEM
- Be willing to serve a two-year term
- Should have considerable experience and leadership on SAEM committees and task forces
- Assist in developing the slate of nominees for elected positions
SAEM Bylaws Committee
- Be a current, active* member of SAEM
- Be willing to serve a three-year term (serve as chair during the third year of term)
- Should have considerable experience and leadership on SAEM committees and task forces
- Review the Bylaws and makes recommendations to the SAEM Board of Directors for amendments to be considered by the membership
- Read the Bylaws Committee Candidate Description
* An SAEM active member is defined in the SAEM bylaws as an individual who holds a university appointment or who is actively involved in emergency medicine teaching, research, or administration.
** An AACEM active member is defined in the AACEM guidelines as an individual who is a full, acting, or interim Chairs of Departments of Emergency Medicine in LCME or AOA-COCA accredited medical schools in the United States and Canada.
