Formal Ethics Fellowships

The working group identified several formal ethics fellowships. The programs typically are one to two years in length. Fellows usually complete a project addressing a specific issue, and participate in seminars and actual ethics rounds on individual patients. Of interest, both have specialized tracks for surgeons, pediatricians, geneticists, etc., but none for emergency medicine. Nonetheless, they have had infrequent emergency physician graduates. We have contacted several of these physicians, and they expressed great satisfaction with the program experience. Completion of the fellowship has led to a significant career focus.
