"Investigating Malpositioned IUDs as a Cause of Acute Pelvic Pain"
The University of Utah Department of Emergency Medicine is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care while advancing clinical research that directly informs frontline practice. IUD-related complications, though uncommon, can present acutely and are often managed initially in the ED 15. By examining how frequently malpositioned IUDs contribute to pelvic pain in our emergency departments and how these cases are managed, this study addresses a critical gap in emergency medicine knowledge. Findings will inform clinical protocols and educational efforts, enhancing emergency medicine department’s ability to rapidly identify and manage IUD-related complications, ultimately improving patient outcomes across global health systems and contributing to international discourse on women's health in emergency care.
