ARMED MedEd
Applications for the 2026-2027 ARMED MedEd cohort are closed.
SAEM is proud to offer the Advanced Research Methodology Evaluation and Design: Medical Education (ARMED MedEd) course. This course builds upon the fundamental knowledge and skills of health professions education researchers and equips them to design a high-quality medical education research project and grant proposal.
We recommend this course for people who have an interest and basic level of understanding or experience in medical education research. If you have already completed an introductory course in health professions education research, such as the MERC at CORD program, ALiEM Faculty Incubator Program, or are enrolled in a fellowship or graduate degree program, you are also eligible for the course. However, it is not a prerequisite.
Accepted applicants are required to attend a series of virtual lectures and to participate in a longitudinal program with peers and national experts. The course will culminate with a dedicated scientific session at the SAEM Annual Meeting. The SAEM Foundation has also developed a $25,000 funding opportunity specifically for ARMED MedEd alumni to apply at the completion of the course. Even if you're unsure of your budget and travel restrictions, you can still apply now. Payment will not be due until you are accepted into the program.
Course Fee: $1,850
The course fee includes tuition and meals for in-person workshops. Travel costs and accommodations are the responsibility of the participants.

What Alumni Say
"I wanted to extend my sincere thanks for the incredible experience and training provided through the ARMED MedEd course. The curriculum was thoughtfully designed and delivered, and I continue to benefit from the knowledge and skills I gained. During the course, I wrote four grants, including a K12! While the K12 was not funded, I received encouraging and constructive feedback that I've taken to heart. I have since been award a $100,000 IUH Values Grant to expand our S.T.A.R. Program across all residencies at IUSM."
-Kyra Reed, MD
"ARMED MedEd offers that 'next step' beyond other education research training programs that exist. The program has had a significant impact on my personal scholarly work and career trajectory. Through the mentorship program and discussion of my work and interests with leaders in ARMED MedEd, I have been fortunate enough to join a multi-site study/grant which has led to further opportunities within the larger medical education community. This course is perfect for educators who want to take that next step in building their understanding and skillset with regards to education scholarship."
-Kevin R. Scott, MD, MSE
"My very first day in the ARMED MedEd program changed my career and my life. On that day I met my mentor who immediately began talking to me about research projects beyond the realm of my imagination. My perspective changed from designing small-scale projects that would impact my department's curriculum to conducting research that would change the world. What's more, my mentor introduced me to many other departments at his university, with whom I am applying for funding on a variety of projects. The possibilities now seem endless."
-Rebekah Cole, PhD, MEd
"Participating in ARMED MedEd has been incredibly impactful as a new attending focused on education and EMS research. The training on medical education research design, along with the mentorship and collaboration with peers, has been invaluable. If you're interested in medical education research, I highly recommend this course!"
