Daniel Nishijima, MD, MAS

Associate Professor UC Davis Department of Emergency Medicine

Biography

I am a professor and vice chair of research in the department of emergency medicine at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis). After completing emergency medicine residency at Kings County Hospital/SUNY Downstate, I did a two-year emergency medicine research fellowship and a three-year institutional KL2 Mentored Multidisciplinary Clinical/Translational Research Fellowship at UC Davis. As vice chair for the UC Davis Department of Emergency Medicine I help oversee the research operations and infrastructure in the department. I also serve in key leadership positions within the UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center, as the medical director for the Trial Innovation Network (TIN) and medical director for the UC Davis Clinical Research Center, and thus oversee multiple NIH and industry multicenter clinical trials.

My research interests focus on trauma and neurological emergencies, particularly involving coagulation disorders within these areas. I have previously and designed and led prior and ongoing federally funded multicenter clinical trials and studies and served as site PI for numerous clinical trials within emergency care networks including PECARN, NETT, and SIREN. I also have experience with clinical trial network hub leadership, serving as the co-PI for the PRIME node within PECARN, a pediatric emergency care research network funded by HRSA.

I have been an active and contributing member to SAEM for the past 17 years, previously serving on the SAEM Grants Committee and the SAEM Research Committee. I am running for office to serve on the SAEM Nominating Committee, which organizes and directs the electoral procedures for SAEM leadership positions. The Nominating Committee’s role in SAEM is important, as ensuring stable and qualified leadership is crucial for the continued growth and success of SAEM. If elected, I will work towards making certain that we have a capable and diverse leadership group representative of our SAEM membership.
