SAEM Education Summit - Under Pressure: Teaching Effectively On Shift

Clinical educators need to transmit their knowledge and skills to their learners quickly and effectively. The Education Summit is a free half-day track devoted to medical educators. This year's track is designed to enhance skills related to teaching while on shift, utilizing a mix of panel discussion, didactics and workshops led by internationally-recognized medical education experts. Participants will learn bedside tips and tricks for teaching on the fly, how to incorporate EBM on shift, and discuss soft skills (empathy, communication, leadership) needed to deal with tough yet teachable moments encountered in the workplace.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this session, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the importance of teaching at the bedside

  • Translate research from journal article to bedside

  • Model the best ways to handle conflict and/or difficult situations on shift

  • Explain how to disclose medical error and how to debrief and recover from high-intensity clinical situations
