Fellow Awards

The awards are presented during the SAEM Annual Meeting. Recipients must be SAEM members and have completed a residency in Emergency Medicine prior to fellowship. Previous recipients of the award are ineligible for further nomination for this award.

The nomination period for 2024 SAEM Awards is October 1 to December 9, 2023.

New this year, the SAEM Awards Committee has developed a standardized letter template for you to use when creating your nomination packet.

Critical Care Fellow Award

This award recognizes fellows who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the field of critical care medicine in the areas of education and research. Recipients will have shown a significant dedication to critical care which may be demonstrated through teaching recognition, education awards, education grant-funding, educational publications, involvement in innovative educational curricula, and regional or national presentations. Recipients also will have demonstrated research excellence via key participation in, presentation of, and publication of impactful critical care research.

EMS Fellow Award

This award recognizes fellows who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the field of EMS medicine in the areas of education and research. Recipients will have shown a significant dedication to critical care which may be demonstrated through teaching recognition, education awards, education grant-funding, educational publications, involvement in innovative educational curricula, and regional or national presentations. Recipients also will have demonstrated research excellence via key participation in, presentation of, and publication of EMS research.

Toxicology Fellow Award

This award recognizes fellows who have demonstrated outstanding scholarly contributions to the Toxicology through research, education, advocacy, or implementation science. Recipients have shown a significant dedication to Toxicology which may be demonstrated through teaching recognition awards, education awards, education or research grant-funding, educational publications, involvement in innovative educational curricula and program development, and regional or national presentations. Recipients have also demonstrated research excellence via key participation in, presentation of, and publication of impactful Toxicology research. 

Pediatric EM Fellow Award

This award recognizes fellows who have demonstrated outstanding scholarly contributions to the PEM through research, education, advocacy, or implementation science. Recipients have shown a significant dedication to PEM which may be demonstrated through teaching recognition awards, education awards, education or research grant-funding, educational publications, involvement in innovative educational curricula and program development, and regional or national presentations. Recipients have also demonstrated research excellence via key participation in, presentation of, and publication of impactful PEM research.

Eligibility 

Candidates may be nominated by any SAEM member and are evaluated by the Awards Committee on their accomplishments in knowledge creation, including:

  1. Didactic/bedside teaching (with impact assessments)
  2. Courses - development, advancement (with impact assessments)
  3. Awards
  4. Scholarly works (research text chapter and textbooks, reviews)
  5. Presentations at regional, national, and international meetings
  6. Grants

Guidelines

The nomination must include:

  • A current CV of the candidate
  • A brief (1-2 paragraph) biographical summary 
  • A cover letter by the nominator addressing above areas and the impact on emergency medicine, delivery of care or understanding of illness/therapy (please download the standardized letter template available above to create your cover letter) 
  • While not mandatory, a maximum of two (2) additional support letters may be submitted (these may use the standardized letter template or be written free-form, limited to 2 pages)
  • A color photo of nominee (.jpg 300 DPI high resolution)
  • Person nominating award candidate (including mailing address, phone and fax numbers and email address)
  • Contact information of department administrator or media persons that should be notified if the award is received.
