Resident and Medical Student Leadership Opportunities

SAEM offers resident and medical student members opportunities to represent their peers, develop as leaders, and help shape the future of SAEM and academic emergency medicine. Explore the available leadership positions, review their eligibility requirements and responsibilities, and consider nominating yourself or an eligible colleague.

SAEM Board of Directors Resident Member

• One-year term (one position available).
• Brings the resident perspective directly to the SAEM Board of Directors and helps ensure that the priorities and experiences of residents are represented in the Society's governance and strategic decision-making.
• Must be a current, resident* member of SAEM.
• Must be a resident at an approved emergency medicine residency program at the time of election and during the one-year term.
• Must attend all Board of Directors meetings each year.
• Must be or become knowledgeable about SAEM's mission and programs.
• Must participate in promoting, sustaining, and building the mission of SAEM and contribute to SAEM's development.

Resident and Medical Students (RAMS) Board

President

• One-year term (one position available) followed by a one-year term as Immediate Past President.
• Must be a current member of SAEM.
• Must attend all RAMS Board meetings each year.
• Must report the RAMS Board actions/accomplishments to the SAEM Board of Directors on a quarterly basis.
• Must report on actions of the RAMS Board to SAEM resident and medical student members.
• Must represent the interests of the SAEM resident and medical student members.
• Must appoint committees, ad hoc committees, and/or task forces in conjunction with the RAMS Board as needed to accomplish the mission and goals of the RAMS Board.

Secretary-Treasurer

• One-year term (one position available).
• Must be a current member of SAEM.
• Must attend all RAMS Board meetings each year.
• Must serve as President in the absence of the President of the RAMS Board.
• Must ensure that minutes are taken and distributed for RAMS Board meetings.
• Must oversee and report to the RAMS Board regarding the RAMS financial records.
• Must represent the interests of the SAEM resident and medical student members.
• Must assist with other duties as may be assigned by the President of the RAMS Board.

Members-at-Large

• One-year term (several positions available).
• Must attend all RAMS Board meetings each year.
• Must serve as an SAEM Committee Liaison.
• Must represent the interests of the SAEM resident and medical student members.
• Must assist with other duties as may be assigned by the President of the RAMS Board.

Medical Student

• One-year term (one position available).
• Must attend all RAMS Board meetings each year.
• Must serve as an SAEM Committee Liaison.
• Must represent the interests of the SAEM resident and medical student members.
• Must assist with other duties as may be assigned by the President of the RAMS Board.

Academy for Diversity & Inclusion in Emergency Medicine (ADIEM) Resident Member

• One-year term (one position available).
• Candidate must be a resident during the term of office.

Academy of Emergency Ultrasound (AEUS) Resident Member

• One-year term (one position available).
• Candidate must be a resident during the term of office.

Academy of Geriatric Emergency Medicine (AGEM) Resident Representative

• One-year term (one position available).
• Candidate must be a resident during the term of office.

AGEM Medical Student Representative

• One-year term (one position available).
• Candidate must be a medical student during the term of office.

Academy for Women in Academic Emergency Medicine (AWAEM) Resident Member

• One-year term (one position available).
• Candidate must be a resident during the term of office.

Global Emergency Medicine Academy (GEMA) Medical Student/Resident Representative

• One-year term (one position available).
• Candidate must be a medical student or resident during the term of office.

Academy of Pediatric Emergency Medicine (APEM) RAMS Liaison

• One-year term (one position available).
• Candidate must be a medical student or resident during the term of office.

Informatics, Digital Health, Emerging Technologies, and Artificial Intelligence (IDEA) Academy Resident Liaison

• One-year term (one position available).
• Candidate must be a medical student or resident during the term of office.
