Marquita S. Norman, MD, MBA

Member-at-Large UT Southwestern Medical Center

Candidate Statement

I am honored to be considered for the SAEM Board of Directors. For more than a decade, I have been deeply engaged with SAEM and committed to advancing education, equity, leadership, and innovation in academic emergency medicine. SAEM has been instrumental in my professional development, providing mentorship, collaboration, and opportunities that have shaped my career and leadership trajectory.

I currently serve as Chair of the SAEM Finance Committee and as a member of the SAEM Foundation Board of Trustees, roles in which I help ensure the Society’s financial strength, strategic growth, and long-term sustainability. In these positions, I contribute to shaping organizational priorities, supporting philanthropic initiatives, and strengthening the infrastructure that enables SAEM to deliver high-impact programs for members. Additionally, I have served as Past President of ADIEM, the inaugural Chair of the Equity and Inclusion Committee, an active member of the Faculty Development Committee, and a planning committee member for two consensus conferences. These roles have allowed me to foster inclusive leadership, mentorship, and professional development across the Society. Beyond national service, I serve as Associate Vice Chair for Health Equity, Quality, and Safety in the Department of Emergency Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, leading initiatives that integrate equity, quality improvement, and inclusive practices into education, research, and clinical care.

I am running for the SAEM Board of Directors to continue empowering members, advancing innovation, and fostering an inclusive environment where all emergency medicine professionals can thrive. If elected, I hope to expand leadership development opportunities, enhance cross-academy collaboration, support scholarship and educational innovation, and ensure SAEM remains the premier organization shaping the future of emergency and acute care.
