Are you an aspiring researcher currently in residency? If so, this is an opportunity you don’t want to miss.

SAEM and the SAEM Foundation (SAEMF) are pleased to announce an opportunity for residents aspiring to become career researchers to serve as grant reviewers for the SAEMF. We are dedicated to training the future generation of researchers in emergency medicine and helping you along your journey to becoming the best academic emergency medicine physician you can be. The Resident Reviewer Program (RRP) is an indispensable way for residents to gain insight into the grant review process which will help you prepare for writing your own grant proposals in the future. Applications are accepted from February through April each year. This year's application deadline has passed. Please review details below and start planning for next year!

Eligibility:

  • Emergency medicine residents PGY 2-4 during the July 2025–June 2026 academic year dedicated to pursuing a research career are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be SAEM members.

Applications must include:

  • A personal letter of interest to share your reason for wanting to serve on the SAEM Grants Committee to include what you hope to gain from the experience; how this position fits into your career goals; and details of any prior experience you have with research including writing and/or scoring grants, although prior experience is NOT a requirement to apply.
  • A letter of support from your program director (PD) stating that you are in good standing in your training program and that the PD supports your application for this position, including their commitment to ensure that you have adequate time to participate in the grant review process.
  • Your current curriculum vitae.

The SAEMF will review applications and select the 2025 Resident Reviewers in early May for service to begin May 2025. For more information contact Grants@saem.org.

About the Program

Resident Reviewers participate in the SAEMF grant review process and have the opportunity to participate in other SAEM Grants Committee meetings and objectives. Resident Reviewers are assigned a faculty mentor who will provide mentorship on evaluating and scoring grants. The Resident Reviewer program provides the opportunity for residents to better understand the components of a strong grant application and the grant review process. Neither prior research nor prior grant review experience are necessary to serve as a Resident Reviewer.
