Dr. Al'ai Alvarez MD, FACEP, FAAEM is a clinical assistant professor of Emergency Medicine (EM) and the Director of Well-Being at Stanford Emergency Medicine. He co-leads the Human Potential Team and serves as the Fellowship Director of the Stanford EM Physician Wellness. He co-chairs the Stanford WellMD Physician Wellness Forum. His work focuses on humanizing physician roles as individuals and teams through the harnessing of our individual human potential in the context of high-performance teams. This includes optimizing the interdependence between Process Improvement (Quality and Clinical Operations), Recruitment (Diversity), and Well-being (Inclusion).

Dennis Hsieh, MD, JD

Dennis Hsieh is an assistant professor of emergency medicine and the Director for Social Medicine and Community Health for Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, which is part of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. He focuses on access to care and the social determinants of health (SDOH), including SDOH screening and interventions across clinical settings, hospital-based violence intervention programs, medical-legal community partnerships (MLCPs) and re-entry from jail. He is the former medical director the Whole Person Care Jail re-entry program. Dennis has a special interest in addressing SDOH such as violence, food, housing, and financial strain to improve health. He co-founded the hospital-based violence intervention program at Harbor-UCLA and is now co-leading the development of a trauma recovery center at Harbor-UCLA. Dennis is a founding member of the UCLA Department of Emergency Medicine’s Section on International and Domestic Health Equity (IdHEAL, www.idheal.org); ACEP’s Social Emergency Medicine Section and is the section’s chair elect; and SAEM’s Social Emergency Medicine and Population Health Interest Group. Dennis earned his A.B. in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard, J.D. from Yale and M.D. from UC San Francisco.

Angela Jarman is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine. She joined the faculty at UC Davis after completed a two-year fellowship in Sex & Gender in Emergency Medicine at Brown University, where she also earned a Master of Public Health degree. Angela is a North Carolina native and majored in Gender Studies at Duke University before attending medical school at the University of Kentucky. She trained in Emergency Medicine at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Her professional interests include sex differences in acute care medicine, gender bias in medicine and leadership, and global emergency medicine. Personally, Angela enjoys long hikes in the mountains with her dog, her many nieces, and good books!

Joell Moll, MD

Joel Moll is residency Program Director and Associate Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University. He previously served as Associate Program Director at the University of Michigan, and Assistant Program Director and Administration Fellowship Director at Emory University. Although always interested in education, Dr. Moll started his career in operations, and was medical director at Cleveland Clinic Florida and the University of Florida Gainesville prior to joining residency leadership. He has published multiple peer reviewed articles and textbook chapters, presents internationally and nationally, and has served on many national committees. He is Past President of the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine’s Academy of Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Medicine, and an oral boards examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He was recently honored to be named the VCU Health Leadership in Medical Education Residency Director of the year, and the recipient of the VCU School of Medicine Leonard Tow Humanism Award. Interests include graduate medical education, curriculum development, diversity and inclusion, and evidence-based medicine.

Mark Olaf, DO

"Mark Olaf, DO, is the vice chair of emergency medicine education at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, as well as a regional associate dean for the central campus of the medical school. He is a 2006 cum laude Graduate of Bucknell University with a BS in Biology with Honors, and a 2010 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he received his doctorate of osteopathy. He completed his emergency medicine residency at Geisinger Medical Center, and served as chief resident. He has been a member of the CDEM academy for this year, involved in clerkship direction for 5 years, and is a current co-chair of the CORD advising students committee. He is running for this position to bring his experience and talents to SAEM, and to further develop clerkship standards and opportunities for students across the country. He would like to be involved in contributing to this committee in order to expand the “toolbox” of resources available to clerkship directors."

Dr. Olaf is a board-certified emergency physician. His clinical interests include toxicology, emergency medical services and medical education. His research interests include medical education. Dr. Olaf earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency at Geisinger Medical Center. He is certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Wendy Sun is an Administration Fellow and Instructor of Emergency Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine. She is passionate about patient quality and safety, physician wellness, and health innovation. Having served as a past President of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Residents and Medical Students (SAEM RAMS) and the Resident Member on the SAEM Board of Directors, she continues to be invested in the advancement of emergency medicine through research, mentorship, education, and advocacy.

Dr. Sun earned her undergraduate degree at Columbia University in Biomedical Engineering. She subsequently obtained her Doctor of Medicine from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine where she was inducted into the Gold Humanism and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Societies. Most recently, she completed Emergency Medicine residency at Yale - New Haven Health where she served as Chief Resident. She continues to further her education as a candidate of the MBA for Executives at the Yale School of Management. A Canadian from Toronto, she now resides in New Haven.
