ADIEM Awards
2026 Awards and Scholarships: CLOSED
Award nominations for the 2026 season will open in January 5, 2026 and close February 6, 2026. All ADIEM awards will be presented at the ADIEM All-Member meeting at SAEM26 in Atlanta.
All nominees must be a current SAEM and ADIEM member. Self-nominations are welcome and encouraged. Winners will be announced during the ADIEM academy meeting at SAEM's annual meeting.
Required Documentation for Awards:
- Nominee's CV
- One nomination letter explaining why the candidate merits the award. The nomination letter may be submitted either by a former or current colleague, mentee, or employer
Required Documentation for Scholarships:
- Nominee's CV
- A brief (1 - 2 paragraph) biographical summary
- Personal Statement: 500-1000 word essay
- A letter of recommendation
ADIEM Awards
Trainee Advocate for DEI Award
To be presented to a medical student or resident who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and initiative in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within their institution and/or community. The recipient's efforts have contributed to creating a more inclusive and equitable environment that actively upholds and promotes the core principles of DEI.
Community Builder Award
To be awarded to a faculty member, resident, or medical student who has demonstrated outstanding dedication to fostering diverse, inclusive, and supportive communities beyond the boundaries of their institution. The recipient's efforts have meaningfully strengthened connections, promoted equity, and cultivated communities where all individuals feel valued and included.
Inclusive Excellence Award
To be awarded to a faculty member, resident, or medical student who has demonstrated exceptional dedication to fostering an inclusive and equitable work and learning environment. The recipient’s efforts have actively promoted a culture of belonging, respect, and opportunity, ensuring that diversity and inclusion are integral to their institution's values and practices.
Accessibility Advocate Award
To be presented to an individual with outstanding efforts to enhance accessibility and promote inclusion for people with disabilities. The recipient demonstrates a sustained personal or professional connection to the disability community and a clear commitment to improving accessibility in Emergency Departments (ED). Additionally, the recipient contributes to scholarly work focused on accessibility and accommodations and actively disseminates best practices to foster more accessible ED environments.
Visionary Late Career Award
To be presented annually to an individual 7 years or more into their career who has demonstrated an extraordinary impact on the academic success of students or residents who are underrepresented in medicine or from historically marginalized groups.
Visionary Early Career Award
To be presented annually to an individual less than 7 years into practice who has demonstrated an extraordinary impact on the academic success of students or residents who are underrepresented in medicine or from historically marginalized groups.
Outstanding Academician Award
To be presented annually to an individual 7 years or more into practice who, by virtue of their scholarship, has addressed health inequities in EM and/or promoted cultural safety, justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.
Outstanding Future Academician Award
To be presented annually to a resident or medical student who has demonstrated a commitment to the principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion through their work in education, research, or service.
Outstanding Early Career Academician Award
To be presented annually to an individual less than 7 years into practice who, by virtue of their scholarship, has addressed health inequities in EM and/or promoted cultural safety, justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.
Sheryl Heron, MD, MPH Legacy Award
To be presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated a sustained, long-term commitment to the principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion through scholarship, mentorship, and leadership.

ADIEM Scholarships
RAMS Resident Education/Innovation Scholarship
SAEM Residents and Medical Students (RAMS) is dedicated to supporting the future of emergency medicine by recognizing residents who demonstrate leadership, innovation, and a commitment to advancing the field. With the rising costs of medical education, RAMS seeks to provide financial assistance to residents who have made significant contributions through leadership, education, or innovations that support diversity, equity, and inclusion in emergency medicine.
Eligibility: Applicant must:
- Be an SAEM member, and ADIEM Membership is strongly encouraged
- Be a resident physician (PGY1 - PGY4) in an accredited Emergency Medicine residency program in the USA
- Demonstrate leadership, innovation, or contributions that support diversity, equity, and inclusion in emergency medicine
Financial Award: Scholars will receive up to $1000 to assist in costs associated with national conference attendance or medical education costs (eg. national licensing exam fees, question banks, study preparation resources).
Guidelines: Demonstrate an excellence and commitment to emergency medicine:
- A brief (1 - 2 paragraph) biographical summary
- Personal Statement: 500-1000 word essay describing the resident's leadership, innovation, or contributions that support diversity, equity, and inclusion in emergency medicine; include how you will use the $1000 and the impact you wish to have as an academic emergency physician. CV demonstrating:
- Strong leadership and commitment to Emergency Medicine (ex: residency leadership, medical student education, previous involvement with SAEM, etc.)
- Strong background of work in EM research, education, and/or innovative projects
- A letter of recommendation from a faculty mentor, residency program director, or department chair is requested (these may use the standardized letter template or be written free-form, limited to 2 pages)
RAMS Medical Student Education Scholarship
SAEM Residents and Medical Students (RAMS) is dedicated to supporting the future of emergency medicine by recognizing medical students who demonstrate leadership, innovation, and a commitment to advancing the field. With the rising costs of medical education, RAMS seeks to provide financial assistance to medical students who have made significant contributions through leadership, education, or innovations that support diversity, equity, and inclusion in emergency medicine
Eligibility: Applicant must:
- Be an SAEM member, and ADIEM Membership is strongly encouraged
- Be a medical student (MS1 - MS4) in an accredited medical school in the USA
Demonstrate leadership, innovation, or contributions that support diversity, equity, and inclusion in emergency medicine
Financial Award: Scholars will receive up to $1000 to assist in costs associated with national conference attendance or for medical education costs (eg. national licensing exam fees, question banks, Step 1 and Step 2 books and preparation resources).
Guidelines: Demonstrate an excellence and commitment to emergency medicine:
- A brief (1 - 2 paragraph) biographical summary
- Personal Statement: 500-1000 word essay describing the student's leadership, innovation, or contributions that support diversity, equity, and inclusion in emergency medicine(Please download the standardized letter template to create your personal statement)
- CV demonstrating:
- Strong leadership and commitment to Emergency Medicine (ex: EMIG leaders, Ultrasound Interest Group leaders, previous Medical Student Ambassadors at SAEM annual meetings, etc.)
- Strong background of EM research, presentations, and conferences attended.
- A letter of recommendation from a faculty mentor, residency program director, or department chair is requested (these may use the standardized letter template or be written free-form, limited to 2 pages) and up to one additional letter of support.
