Leadership, Engagement, and Academic Pathway (LEAP) Program

The LEAP program is a longitudinal development and mentorship program sponsored by the Academy for Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Medicine (ADIEM) for medical students interested in careers in academic emergency medicine.

WHO: Current M3s interested in a career in academic emergency medicine. Special consideration will be given to applicants who have overcome significant economic or social challenges or who have demonstrated a commitment to fostering inclusivity and addressing healthcare disparities in emergency medicine.

Program Benefits

  • A $1,000 stipend.
  • Longitudinal mentoring with academic emergency medicine faculty for the duration of medical school, with potential extension through residency.
  • Opportunities for scholarly activity through SAEM and ADIEM.
  • Mentees will be required to attend the SAEM Annual Meeting each year they participate in the program.

Additional Mentee Requirements

  • One yearly ADIEM SAEM Pulse article per participant with mentorship collaboration.
  • One yearly ADIEM presentation at the SAEM Annual Meeting as a workshop, didactic, innovation, ignite, abstract, OR short presentation at the ADIEM business meeting if not accepted to full SAEM meeting, with mentorship/collaboration from an ADIEM faculty member.
  • One indexed publication/2-year period (can be research, educational initiatives, perspective pieces, etc.) with mentorship/collaboration from an ADIEM committee faculty member.
  • Leadership role on ADIEM committee yearly. Mentees will be aided in this by their mentors.
