AWAEM Research Award

This award recognizes an individual whose research meaningfully advances the AWAEM mission of promotion, recruitment, retention, and advancement of women in academic emergency medicine. It is designed to support and celebrate scholars—particularly those pursuing pilot projects or multi-center studies—whose work is not currently non-funded. Recipients are encouraged to also consider applying for the larger SAEMF/AWAEM Research Grant to support their research project.

Application:
All applications must be submitted electronically to awaem@saem.org.

Applications must be emailed as a single file in .pdf format. The subject line of the email should read “2025 AWAEM Research Award”.

Awardees will be required to submit a twice annual progress report and will deliver a brief presentation at the AWAEM academy meeting during the SAEM Annual Meeting in May.

Eligibility:
● The candidate must be a member of AWAEM

Selection Criteria:
Candidates will be prioritized based on their research’s 1) alignment with AWAEM’s mission and objectives, 2) significance and potential for impact; 3) feasibility of the research within the overall proposed budget and timeline and proposed funding sources (not limited to this $1,000 award); and 4) Attestation of IRB submission at the time of the application (if applicable).

Award Amount:
The AWAEM Research Award includes a financial prize of $1,000 to the awardee.

Review Process and Timeline:

Materials will be reviewed by the AWAEM Research Committee Chairs (if no conflict exists) and members of the AWAEM Executive Committee. Award decisions will be finalized by early January, with funds distributed by mid-January 2026.
