UCLA Global Health and Medical Education Fellowship

In-Person EM Training & Teaching

Fellows will travel to partner institutions to provide direct instruction and offer hands-on EM training.

Current Partner Sites

• Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya
• Living Room Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya
• University of Global Health Equity in Kigali, Rwanda
• Curriculum Development and Evaluation
• Work with local faculty to design, adapt, and implement emergency medicine curricula used to teach international medical students and residents.
• Support the implementation evaluation process through scholarly work to improve curricula, learner experience, and dissemination of results within the broader global EM community.

Examples of Previous Published Projects

• Two year emergency medicine curriculum for the family medicine residency program and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kenya
• Seven-week curriculum for the University for Global Health Equity in Rwanda Remote Education
• Maintain ongoing connections with partners through remote lectures, case 2 of 3 based teaching, mentorship, and curricular updates. 

Regular Remote Lecture Activities

• Biweekly Zoom sessions with family medicine residents at Moi Teaching and Living Room Hospital staff in Eldoret, Kenya
• Zoom lectures with EM diploma students at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya
• Partnership building 
• Collaborate with UCLA’s robust Graduate Medical Education Global Health Program (GHP), the EM:RAP Global Outreach team, international medical schools and residency programs, as well as emergency medicine leaders across the world. 

Professional Development

There are opportunities to participate in formal education to augment fellowship work, such as a Master of Public Health. Fellows will participate in UCLA GME GHP orientation training and apply to attend the Health Emergencies in Large Populations (H.E.L.P.) course at the University of Geneva in Geneva, Switzerland.

UCLA Resident & Faculty Involvement

Facilitate the involvement of UCLA residents and faculty in global health initiatives, electives, and partnerships.

Clinical Emergency Medicine

Fellows will work an average of eight clinical shifts a month at one of the following UCLA (or UCLA-associated) clinical sites.
