2017 Call for Nominations

The Society of Academic Emergency Medicine is now accepting nominations for the Board of Directors, SAEM Committees, Executive Committees of SAEM’s Academies, and the Executive Committee of the Association of Academic Chairs of Emergency Medicine (AACEM). Your participation enables you to lend your leadership and vision to the SAEM community and to contribute to defining its path forward. If you are interested in serving or nominating a fellow member, please see below for more information.

Start the nomination process by clicking one of the links below. Nominations may be submitted by the candidate or any SAEM member.

Requirements and Responsibilities for SAEM

  • President-Elect
    • Be a current member of SAEM
    • Be willing to serve a 1-year term followed by a 1-year term as President and than another as Immediate Past President
    • Attend all Board of Directors meetings each year
    • Serve as the Chair of the Nominating Committee
    • Be knowledgeable about SAEM’s mission and programs
    • Participate in promoting, sustaining, and building the mission of SAEM
    • Contribute to SAEM’s development
  • Secretary-Treasurer
    • Be a current member of SAEM
    • Be willing to serve a 1-year term
    • Give notice of all meetings of the Board for which notice may be required
    • Be responsible for the agenda of the annual business meeting and meetings of the Board in conjunction with the President
    • Oversee the financial accounts and records of SAEM

  • Member-at-Large
    • Be a current member of SAEM
    • Be willing to serve a 3-year term (with eligibility to serve an additional 3-year term)
    • Attend all Board of Directors meetings each year
    • Be or become knowledgeable about SAEM’s mission and programs
    • Participate in promoting, sustaining, and building the mission of SAEM
    • Contribute to SAEM’s development
  • Resident Member
    • Be a current member of SAEM
    • Be willing to serve a 1-year term (with eligibility to serve an additional 1-year term)
    • Be a resident at an approved emergency medicine residency program at the time of election and during the 1-year term
    • Attend all Board of Directors meetings each year
    • Be or become knowledgeable about SAEM’s mission and programs
    • Participate in promoting, sustaining, and building the mission of SAEM
    • Contribute to SAEM’s development
  • Nominating Committee
    • Be a current member of SAEM
    • Be willing to serve a 2-year term
    • Should have considerable experience and leadership on SAEM committees and task forces
    • Assist in developing the slate of nominees for elected positions
  • Bylaws Committee
    • Be a current member of SAEM
    • Be willing to serve a 3-year term and as chair during the third year of term
    • Should have considerable experience and leadership on SAEM committees and task forces
    • Review the Constitution and Bylaws and makes recommendations to the BOD for amendments to be considered by the membership

Requirements and Responsibilities for Executive Committee of AACEM

  • Member-at-Large
    • Be a current member of AACEM
    • Be willing to serve a 2-year term with an automatic second two-year term followed by automatic succession to a one-year term for each officer position (Secretary-Treasurer, President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past-President). Total term commitment is 8 years.
    • Attend all Executive Committee meetings each year
    • Be or become knowledgeable about the AACEM’s mission and programs
    • Should have considerable experience and leadership on SAEM committees and task forces

Nomination Procedures

  1. Nominations are sought from the membership through advertisements in the SAEM Newsletter and on the SAEM website. All members who respond to the call for nominations are considered by the Nominating Committee.
  2. Whenever possible, a slate of two or more candidates is presented to the membership for each position. In addition, each position is open for additional “write-in” candidates.
    The candidate statement regarding each nominee is prepared by the nominees themselves.
  3. Only active members whose 2016 annual dues have been paid will receive a ballot and are eligible to vote for all positions, except for resident members.
  4. Only resident members may vote for the resident member position.Residents are not eligible to vote for other positions.
  5. SAEM prides itself on having an open and non-political election process.Attempts to garner support for specific candidates via mass emails, distribution of campaign materials, or similar strategies are strongly discouraged.Such activities tend to distract members from focusing on each individual candidate’s qualifications, prior service, and potential to help further SAEM’s mission.

  • October 1, 2016: Call for nominations for SAEM's BOD, Committees, Academies, and AACEM
  • December 2, 2016: Nominations close for SAEM's BOD, Committees, Academies, and AACEM
  • January 20, 2017: Nominee slate announce for AAAEM
    February 1, 2017: Nominee slate announced; Voting Opens for SAEM BOD, AACEM and most Academies
  • February 3, 2017: Voting closes for AAAEM and winners notified
  • March 6, 2017: Voting closes for SAEM BOD, AACEM and most Academies
  • March 7, 2017: Voting closes; winners notified
  • March 2017: Election results announced
  • May 2017: New terms begin at SAEM17

2016-2017 Board of Directors

The SAEM Board of Directors manages the property, activities, and affairs of SAEM, and governs the Society between annual business meetings.SAEM is governed by elected members who serve on the Society's Board of Directors and committees.

SAEM Executive Committee
