CDEM Meeting Recap at SAEM25
Amy Cutright, MD - President’s Report: Key CDEM Updates & Presentations from SAEM25 CDEM All Member Meeting
CDEM all-member meeting at SAEM25 in Philadelphia was a great success. The meeting began with a review of the past year, celebrating key accomplishments such as continued support for education grants and updates to the CDEM Directory. We also highlighted important partnerships with RAMS, EMRA, WestJEM, and the Education Committee. Notable collaborative efforts include co-hosted webinars and a coordinated, multi-organizational response to the proposed changes to the ACGME Common Program Requirements.
The meeting also featured an awards ceremony, presented by Dr. Ryan Pedigo, recognizing outstanding members and their contributions to medical education. Awards included Clerkship Director of the Year, Sharon Board, MD; Clerkship Coordinator of the Year, Auda Hutto; Innovation in Medical Education, Sarah Williams, MD, MHPE, ACC; Young Educator of the Year, Moises H. Gallegoes, MD, MPH, MEHP; and Medical Education Travel Scholarships awarded to Donna Okoli, MD and Nathan Baggett, MD. Additionally, Dr. Keme Carter received the CDEM President's Apple Award for her exceptional service as CDEM's President from May 2024- May 2025.
In addition to the President’s Report, I’d also like to highlight three important presentations delivered at SAEM25:
- Mentorship Program Update | Jennifer Carey, MD
- Dr. Carey shared an update on the Mentorship Program, which will begin soliciting mentees and mentors starting July 1, 2025. This initiative aims to foster professional development, support educational leadership, and build meaningful connections within CDEM, Fellows, and the Education Committee. The program is designed to offer guidance, resources, and mentorship to help members advance their academic careers—while also strengthening community, expanding professional networks, and providing insight into UME/GME, promotion, and leadership growth. Deadline to apply is September 5, 2025. For more information or to apply, click here.
- Taskforce Update | Matthew Tews, MD
- Dr. Tews, along with key leaders of the Curriculum Taskforce, provided an overview of the task force's work to streamline and standardize EM curricula nationally. The update included key accomplishments and a preview of upcoming initiatives. View the Curriculum Taskforce presentation here.
