SAEM22 Consensus Conference
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Developing a Research Agenda for Addressing Racism in Emergency Medicine
Health outcomes and health care utilization patterns of U.S. Emergency Departments vary disproportionately by race and we aim to examine the different aspects of how race influences the utilization and outcomes of emergency care. Join us for this year’s consensus conference – Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Developing a research agenda for addressing Racism in Emergency Medicine – to support the development of a consensus-driven research agenda, research collaboration network, and dissemination plan for evidence-based practices related to the care of health disparity populations in emergency care settings.
The 2022 SAEM Consensus Conference aims to develop a prioritized research agenda that identifies gaps in the current literature which need to be explored to better understand and address how structural racism impacts emergency care. The conference will focus on three pillars, incorporating social determinants of health into each: 1) education (UME, GME, CME), 2) leadership (recruitment, mentorship, sponsorship), and 3) research.
- Clarify knowledge gaps and prioritize research questions to improve community health and develop of best practices.
- Develop research agendas, disseminate innovations, and address research priorities with key stakeholders.
- Create resident/faculty programs to enhance recruitment, retention, and advancement of diverse groups.
