Andra Blomkalns, MD, SAEM past president, is a professor, clinician specialist, and researcher at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas where she is also vice chair of academic affairs and business development in the department of emergency medicine. Dr. Blomkalns received her MD from Louisiana State University and completed her residency at the University of Cincinnati where she was chief resident. Prior to being installed as SAEM president in May 2016, Andra had served on the SAEM Board of Directors as secretary-treasurer and president-elect and contributed additionally to SAEM as a member and chair of several subcommittees and committees, including the Annual Meeting Program Committee in 2010 and 2011. Andra is also an active member of SAEM’s Academy of Women in Academic Emergency Medicine (AWAEM).
