Sara M. Hock, MD
Rush University Medical Center
Dr. Hock is an assistant professor at Rush University Medical Center and the director for emergency medicine simulation. She completed residency at the University of Chicago and fellowship at the Rush/Cook County Simulation Fellowship program. She is currently the fellowship director of the Rush Emergency Medicine Simulation Fellowship and is a faculty lead for medical student simulation at Rush Medical College. She has a strong track record in her four years of service within the SAEM Simulation academy executive board, including two years as a member-at-large followed by two terms as treasurer. Dr. Hock has helped manage the simulation academy budget through the pandemic and co-organized multiple virtual and in-person mentor hours. She is an active member of the research, education, and faculty development subcommittees. She is excited to be running for president-elect and to continue the excellent work that has been ongoing in the Simulation Academy over the past few years. As president, she hopes to continue to strengthen member engagement through support of virtual events and education; increase broad membership involvement and notifications about committee and research collaboration opportunities, and improve communication with fellowship programs to increase fellow visibility and resources, strengthening the Simulation Academy member base. -
Kimberly Schertzer, MD
Standford University
I am the director of EM simulation and simulation fellowship director at Stanford, and I am excited to be considered for the role of Sim Academy Secretary. I have been a Sim Academy board member before, and I appreciated the opportunity to collaborate with others to bring value to Academy members through educational offerings and other initiatives. I remained active in the Academy when my elected term ended. Over this past year, as an SAEM Fellowship Approval Committee member, I worked closely with Simulation Academy members to move Simulation Fellowships toward SAEM approval.
If elected to the executive committee, I hope to help further develop the feeling of the Academy as a community of practice. I love the active discussion we’ve had about meeting simulation challenges during the pandemic, and I look forward to expanding this great membership engagement. I know many of you, but as a strong introvert, I am not great at the networking required for widespread name recognition. Please know that I am a hardworking and dependable team member. I could be counted on to help achieve the Sim Academy priorities as secretary. I look forward to communicating with you all in the future! -

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
I am an assistant professor in the division of pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. I have been developing and facilitating simulation sessions since my PEM fellowship and simulation is at the core of my academic career.
I have worked with the Simulation Academy since 2018 and as a result I have facilitated four Simulation Academy-sponsored workshops at national meetings and co-authored two simulation education publications, with several exciting collaborations still in process. I’ve also helped develop (and act) in cases for SimWars 2019 and I can’t wait for in-person SimWars to start again.
Outside of the Simulation Academy, SAEM has been incredibly beneficial to my career development. Through participation in the Advanced Research Methodology Evaluation and Design in Medical Education (ARMED MedEd) course I have developed my medical education research skills and I’ve been able to turn the simulation activities that I was already doing into scholarly output.
Simply put, I’m running for a position on the Executive Committee to give back to the Academy that has already given me so much. I hope that through the development and refinement of a mentor-mentee structure in the Academy that the amazing collection of practical knowledge and hard-earned wisdom of senior members of the Academy can be shared with newer members to strengthen the next generation of emergency medicine simulation educators. -
