“Determining the Ideal Timing and Route for Antiarrhythmics during Cardiac Arrest"

Joshua Lupton is an emergency physician, out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survivor, and physician-scientist who researches ways to optimize the care of patients suffering from cardiac arrest. After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon, Dr. Lupton was selected as a Marshall Scholar and received an MPH from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and an MPhil from the University of Cambridge. While attending medical school at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Lupton suffered an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest while running. Despite initial concerns he may never wake up, he made a full recovery, graduated with honors, and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine and a fellowship in Emergency Care Research at Oregon Health and Science University. Dr. Lupton will use the SAEMF Research Training Grant to investigate the optimal timing and route of antiarrhythmic administration during out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
