AWAEM Grants and Scholarships

AWAEM offers the following grants and scholarships for members.

SAEMF/AWAEM Research Grant

Provides $5,000 to support one early career investigator (fellow, instructor, or assistant professor during the award period) who wishes to address a research question in line with the core ideology (see below) of the Academy of Women in Academic Emergency Medicine. This award is intended to allow for preliminary data collection, analysis or collection of pilot data that will further support greater research endeavors.

AWAEM/Resident Award and Travel Grant

To assist with costs for registration and travel to the SAEM Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado, May 2020. This scholarship honors female EM residents who have shown promise for significant career achievements in emergency medicine through research, education, service, advocacy, or administration.  AWAEM will support each resident with up to $500 to help with travel expenses to the SAEM annual meeting.

AWAEM/GEMA Global Travel Grant

To support a female Emergency Medicine physician from a low or middle income country (per World Bank classification) who has shown dedication to and potential for significant career achievements in emergency medicine through research, education, service, advocacy, or administration. This award will assist with up to $3,500 of administrative and travel costs to attend the SAEM Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado (May 2020).  

AWAEM Pre-Day Workshop Scholarship

To assist with the registration cost for the AWAEM pre-day workshop. This scholarship is intended for applicants who have shown promise for significant career achievements in emergency medicine through research, education, service, advocacy, or administration, and/or who have worked to promote the role of women in academic emergency medicine.

AWAEM Junior Faculty Development Forum (JFDF) Scholarship

To assist with the registration cost to participate in the SAEM Junior Faculty Development Forum. This scholarship is intended to support a junior female faculty member who shows promise for significant career achievements in emergency medicine through research, education, service, advocacy, or administration in academic emergency medicine and/or who has worked to promote the role of women in academic emergency medicine. 

The JFDF is designed to enable junior faculty to engage with senior EM leaders, to develop strategies for promotion, productivity, and academic advancement, and to enable them to become the next generation of leaders in our field. It is intended for fellows and early-career faculty who have recently secured faculty positions within academic emergency departments.

AWAEM SAEM Leadership Forum (SAEMLF) Scholarship

To assist with the registration cost to participate in the SAEM Leadership Forum (SAEMLF). This scholarship is intended to support developing leaders in academic emergency medicine who can manage complex organizations, innovate health care delivery, and effectively improve the health of diverse patient populations and who have worked to promote the role of women in academic emergency medicine.

The SAEMLF is designed for aspiring leaders at all levels of experience and academic rank interested in improving their leadership skills. It provides exposure to core leadership topics with an emphasis on experiential learning and practical application.

AACEM/AWAEM Chair Development Course Scholarship

AWAEM in collaboration with the Association of Academic Chairs in Emergency Medicine, will support participation in the Chair Development Program by raising a female academic emergency medicine leader. The scholarship covers the full tuition for CDP and a travel stipend.
