A Message from SAEM President Ian B.K. Martin:
In these times, more than ever before, I am proud to be an emergency physician and honored to be your Society president. While most of the world is trying to figure out the best way to “social distance” to avoid coronavirus, emergency physicians are knowingly putting themselves at great personal risk to heed the call to care for the most vulnerable in our society during this time of great need.
I am humbled to stand among you as the courageous heroes in this evolving crisis, on the front lines of a pandemic the magnitude of which we’ve never seen before. As you contend with the increasing impact of COVID-19, know that SAEM is here for you. We stand ready to support you as you work tirelessly to save lives and treat the sick.
The sacrifices you make every day are worthy of respect and gratitude, but you deserve an extra measure of thanks and appreciation today for your extraordinary commitment to your patients and to elevating the human condition during this time of emergency.
You are in our hearts, our thoughts, and our prayers. We hope that you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy during this challenging time.
Ian B.K. Martin, MD, MBA
President, Society for Academic Emergency Medicine
