Academy of Geriatric Emergency Medicine (AGEM) Resident Member Scholarship

Purpose: AGEM seeks a responsible resident who is enthusiastic about caring for older adults in the emergency department to attend AGEM events at SAEM20. The recipient will attend the AGEM meeting and have the opportunity to lead a 5-10 minute presentation or discussion on a geriatric topic or case on a national stage. The recipient will also have the opportunity to network with AGEM members at the AGEM dinner. To offset costs associated with attendance at the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) Annual Meeting (May 12-15, 2020 Denver, Colorado) and the AGEM business meeting, the scholarship award winner will be reimbursed up to $500 for the travel and housing. AGEM will also cover the winner’s SAEM conference registration fee.

Application consists of:

  • 1 page letter of intent discussing the applicant’s reasons for applying and a brief overview of the geriatric topic or case they would like to present.
  • Current curriculum vitae and contact information.
  • Letter of support from the applicant’s program director or another official in their residency assuring the applicant the time off to attend SAEM20 if chosen. Program Director Letter Template
  • Submit application to by March 13th. Award announcements will be made by March 20th. Conference hotels fill quickly so we recommend you reserve a room while the final announcement is pending.

Eligibility: Applicant must be able to attend the AGEM business meeting.  Resident must become a member of SAEM and AGEM This scholarship is not open to the incoming AGEM resident representative.   

Award: 1 scholarship will be awarded per year and includes a $500 travel scholarship, and AGEM will cover the Annual Meeting registration fees.

About AGEM and The Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Annual Meeting (SAEM20): AGEM focuses on improving the care of older adults in Emergency Departments throughout the nation and the world. To further its mission and to promote current geriatric emergency medicine research, education, and advocacy, AGEM is hosting a 3-hour meeting on May 13, 2020 at SAEM20 – the premier venue for research and educational innovation in emergency medicine. SAEM20 brings together academic emergency medicine physicians from many regions to a single location to advance the knowledge of the specialty. SAEM20 will be May 12-15th in Denver, Colorado. In addition to the AGEM business meeting, AGEM members will be presenting various geriatric emergency medicine didactic and research presentations during SAEM20.
