Academy of Geriatric Emergency Medicine (AGEM) Student Member Scholarship

Purpose: AGEM seeks a responsible student who is enthusiastic about caring for older adults in the emergency department to attend AGEM events at SAEM18. The recipient will attend the AGEM meeting and lead a 5-10 minute presentation or discussion on a geriatric topic or case. The recipient will also have the opportunity to network with AGEM members at a same-day dinner event have the opportunity to present on a national stage. To offset costs associated with attendance at the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) Annual Meeting (May 15-18, Indianapolis, IN) and the AGEM business meeting, the scholarship award winner will be reimbursed up to $500 for the costs of registration, travel, and housing.

Application Process
: Application consists of:

  • 1 page letter of intent discussing the applicant’s reasons for applying and a brief overview of the geriatric topic or case they would like to present.
  • Current curriculum vitae and contact information.
  • Letter of support from the applicant’s Dean or another official in their school assuring the applicant the time off from rotations to attend SAEM if chosen. Dean's Letter Template
  • Submit application to by February 15th. Award announcements will be made by March 2nd. Conference hotels fill quickly so we recommend you reserve a room while the final announcement is pending.

Eligibility: Applicant must be able to attend the AGEM business meeting.  Student member of SAEM (SAEM membership is $25 for medical students This scholarship is not open to the incoming AGEM medical student representative, who will be supported by the AGEM Medical Student Representative Scholarship. 

Selection Criteria: One scholarship will be granted per year.  

Award: $500 travel scholarship, and SAEM will waive the Annual Meeting registration fees for any SAEM member who receives this award.
