Notice of Special Interest: Wellness
PURPOSE
The purpose of this notice of special interest is to develop the science of physician wellness in emergency medicine and to contribute to building the career of researchers focused on physician wellness. SAEMF encourages applications that incorporate elements of physician wellness.
BACKGROUND AND GOALS
Improving physician well-being and preventing burnout is central to SAEM’s mission. Research topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Awareness and recognition of the prevalence of EM physician burnout
- Risks of mental health problems including depression and suicide
- Strategies to mitigate these risks of mental health problems
- Barriers to addressing wellness
- Education or interventions focused on wellness
- Evaluation of burnout mitigation strategies
- Wellness in leadership
- Resiliency
Research supporting wellness in relationship to diversity, equity, and inclusion is also encouraged.
APPLICATION AND SUBMISSION
Applications responsive to this notice of special interest are encouraged in the Research Training Grant, Research Large Project Grant, Education Research Grant and Education Project Grant categories. All applications must be submitted through the SAEM Foundation Grant Portal and adhere to published submission deadlines for the respective SAEMF grant category.
