Decolonizing Global Emergency Medicine

The GEMA Decolonizing Global Emergency Medicine Working Group was formed in 2020 and aims to improve the recognition and understanding of pervasive inequities and colonial legacies within GEM, and create impactful and sustainable changes at the individual, institutional, domestic and international level towards the decolonization of the Global Emergency Medicine field through disruption of inequities and counter-productive power dynamics.

Since its formation, the group has grown to more than 100 members representing five continents and is an inclusive space for all those interested in improving equity in the global health and emergency medicine fields. We welcome members working in emergency medicine in any country, of any level or role (students, residents, fellows, faculty, physicians, nurses, medical officers, etc.) from academic and non-academic institutions to get involved.
