2020-2021 Treasurer Candidate Statements
David N. Christiansen, MBA
Director of Healthcare Administration
Department of Emergency Medicine
University of Florida College of Medicine Jacksonville
I am seeking the opportunity to serve the Academy in the role of Treasurer. Through my education, skills, and experience I believe that I can make a valued contribution.
I have had the privilege of participating with AAAEM beginning in 2010 when it was first forming, and have benefited in countless ways from this community of specialized healthcare professionals. I have served as a member of the Benchmark Survey Committee since its inception. I am also a past Chair of the Communications Committee.
My healthcare career spans over 25 years and has included responsibilities as Administrator in Psychiatry, Anesthesiology, Radiology, Urgent Care, hospitalist and primary care programs. For the past 19 years, I have focused on academic Emergency Medicine, first in Arizona and continuing now in Florida. My combination of experience both within and outside of Emergency Medicine makes me appreciate our specialty and its specific needs.
The work of AAAEM is vital to the support of our specialty. A forum for EM Administrators to communicate, share ideas and generate solutions to common problems exists nowhere else. I hope to help continue AAAEM’s excellent work through service as Treasurer. If elected Treasurer, I would work with the Executive Committee and At Large Board Members to:
- Ensure the continued success of existing initiatives already underway
- Help the Board think strategically about ways to fulfill AAAEM’s mission in the context of available funding
- Make certain budget priorities and decisions reflect the intentions and objectives of the board
- Continue the focus on long term financial viability and growth
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Steven T. Petrovic, MBA
Chief of Operations and Finance
University of Cincinnati
I have been with the University of Cincinnati - College of Medicine and UC Health System for 14 years in numerous roles including Registration Associate, Revenue Cycle Analyst, Nursing Operations Business Manager, and for the last 6 years as the Executive Director and Chief of Operations and Finance for the Department of Emergency Medicine. In this myriad of roles, I have had the privilege to learn a number of skills that assist in decision making on a day to day basis out of experience. I started my time in Cincinnati attending Xavier University for both my Undergraduate work and Masters in Business Administration.
Over the past six years as a member of AAAEM I have been active in a number of committees including Membership, which I currently serve as Chair, Strategic Planning, and Benchmarking. Each opportunity to work with such talented colleagues have made me a better administrator and hopefully the academy better. It is for that reason that I would like to continue that leadership as Treasurer for AAAEM.
I am running for Treasurer to continue to build on the amazing work that has been going on for over a decade. This academy has grown and flourished to become, in my eyes, the greatest resource an academic administrator of emergency medicine has. It is our duty to continue that work and grow the group for the next generation of administrators. The academy has begun that work with initiatives such as the Certificate in Academic Emergency Medicine Administration program (CAEMA) and the expansion of membership levels to include Associate Membership status. If elected, I would work with senior leadership to continue this trend and our work around education and wellness for our current administrators so that they may also grow in their skills and the ever-elusive balance between a highly stressful career and outside life. I appreciate the opportunity of consideration for this role and look forward to what the future holds for AAAEM.
