Mentoring Women

Introduction

According to the American Association of Medical Colleges, women comprise 35.5% of current Emergency Medicine residents, but only 3.6% of emergency physicians in practice. Approximately one-quarter of faculty in Emergency Medicine at the Assistant and Associate Professor levels are women, but only 12% at the Full Professor level. 38% of faculty hired by U.S. medical schools in 2005 were women (AAMC, 2006). The mission of the Mentoring Women interest group is to inspire, encourage, and assist these women in realizing their professional and personal aspirations.
