What is HP 2010?

What is it?
Healthy People 2010 (HP2010) is the prevention agenda for the Nation. The document identifies the most significant preventable threats to health and establishes national goals to reduce these threats. HP2010 sets forth 467 health objectives in 28 focus areas. Although SAEM was not officially involved in the "Healthy People" process until 1996, when we joined as a consortium member, members have made important contributions to the selection of the HP2010 "leading health indicators" and to the inclusion/wording of many different objectives. SAEM is commited to this process and to the achievement of these national health objectives.

To help teach the entire SAEM membership about HP2010, the SAEM Public Health Task Force has created a downloadable PowerPoint presentation entitled the "HP2010 Emergency Medicine Module" (see below). The SAEM Board strongly encourages presentation of this lecture material to EM groups nationwide. We welcome your comments and suggestions at saem@saem.org
