Wilderness Medicine Fellowship
Approval of an Emergency Medicine Wilderness Medicine Fellowship program is contingent upon a review of the institutional environment, current members of the faculty fellowship team, success of prior graduates (if applicable), and proposed curriculum for future fellows. The broad curriculum should be consistent with the previously published Wilderness Medicine Fellowship Curriculum expert consensus document published in Academic Emergency Medicine in 2014. Approved institutions must have an ACGME-approved emergency medicine residency program and evidence of strong support for wilderness medicine education and leadership development in place. They must demonstrate strong collaboration with Wilderness Medicine clinicians, educators, and researchers as well as with other clinical and expert services that supervise relevant clinical, technical outdoor/ rescue skills, and research experience. Institutions must meet the criteria as set forth in the Wilderness Medicine Fellowship RFA. Finally, scholarly activity of fellows is highly encouraged and programs must demonstrate access to mentorship in this area.
