Describe how the residents meet the requirement of engage in scholarly activity:
Each resident will select a faculty mentor for their project and meet regularly with the research director, beginning the first year. The 8-week combined EMS/Administration/Research rotation during the third provides additional time for research experience.
Unique attributes:
Residents spend a total of sixteen weeks during the second and third years on a robust community ED rotation. Specifically, this rotation exposes residents to Emergency Medicine in a busy community emergency department in Beloit, WI with one-on-one supervision and teaching and no competition for procedures or resuscitations. During the EM2 and EM3 years, residents have the ability to participate on the helicopter EMS system, Medflight. During the third year, residents spend eight weeks on a combined EMS/Administration/Research rotation which includes continued participation in the aero-medical program as the flight physician, administrative experience and preparation of monthly morbidity and mortality conferences, participation in quality assurance reviews, and additional time and flexibility to devote to their required research project.
