Describe how the residents meet the requirement of engage in scholarly activity: 
Residents formulate a research question typically during their 1st year. They pursue the question with a faculty member and begin to develop their project from IRB submission and approval to data collection to statistical analysis. Most formulate an abstract and pursue presentation at a national or international meeting. Some choose to pursue different scholarly activity in the form of case reports, and many have written textbook chapters over the past several years.

Residents will spend an appropriate percentage of shifts at this site during each 4 week block they spend on Emergency Medicine, and the remainder at Scott & White Memorial Hospital's ED. This new facility will have a 16 bed PICU, 48 hospital beds, and a dedicated, Children's ED.

Reduced health club rates at Temple College and a city owned gym, The Summit, are available along with free parking, on-call & conference meals, meals while on shift and a 403B retirement plan. Dues to ACEP, TCEP, EMRA and AMA are paid for by the residency, and included in these dues are subscriptions to Annals of Emergency Medicine, Critical Decisions in Emergency Medicine, EMRA Antibiotic Guide, Emergency Medicine Resident News, and EMRap. Our Chair edits his own textbook and provides copies to all residents at no cost. Our EMRA representative attends SAEM and ACEP annual meetings with travel costs covered by the program. Our Chief Residents attend SAEM annually with costs paid. Travel for any research project accepted to a regional, national or international meeting will also be covered. There is potential for multiple paid trips for a resident who has more than one presentation accepted.
