Describe how the residents meet the requirement of engage in scholarly activity:
Residents meet the requirement to engage in shcolarly activity through attendance at scheduled conferences held each Wedensday, including Grand Rounds, Case Presentations, and Journal Club, and by developing and initiating an IRB-approved research project suitable for presentation at the local/regional/national levels and for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Residents are continually evaluated for progress through the completion of objective goals set and reviewed by faculty mentors.
Unique attributes:
The residency program includes a comprehensive research program designed to build and develop skills for clinical, basic-science, and translational research. Residents have access to a full-time basic science lab, a biostatistics department, and an academic associate program staffed with research associates, assistants, and volunteer research interns. Residents are assigned faculty mentors who assist residents in the development and completion of the resident research requirement. Residents may pursue the Department of EM Research Fellowship, a collaborative educational effort between the Department of EM and the NIH-funded General Clinical Research Center at the Feinstein INstitute for Medical Research at North Shore-LIJ.
