Describe how the residents meet the requirement of engage in scholarly activity: 
Residents are guided during their month of orientation as first year residents and on an ongoing basis during the residency. Residents are given ample opportunity to conduct research in the clinical arena as well as in the laboratory setting. There are annual research day conferences at which time residents and attendings present their research. In addition, during their semi-annual meetings, residents are monitored for their progress in conducting research. Several residents progress to abstract presentations at regional and national meetings in addition to manuscript publications.
