One month of EM is a "Didactic month" crash course in EM with DAILY lectures and labs as well as a weekend retreat. The clinical shift load is dramatically reduced during that month to accommodate the didactics. 5 months intensive care, Extensive pediatrics: Pediatrics is integrated into our main ED and all faculty participate in the care of children, furthermore all residents do pediatrics during all months in the ED in addition to the intensive month of Pediatric EM in the PG2 year. We are a community pediatric referral center and see a high volume of tertiary care pediatrics in our main ED. We have multiple double boarded Pediatric Emergency Physicians on full time ED staff as well. We have one of the largest observation units in the country (30 beds) with one of the most progressive observation services around. We see nearly 12,000 patients per year in our observation unit and treat a wide range of disease processes. This is an extraordinarily unique educational opportunity all run by the Emergency Department. We are committed to a thorough training in the use of ultrasound in EM. We perform and bill for ultrasound studies within our department and use 3 state of the art M-Turbo Sonosites.
