Describe how the residents meet the requirement of engage in scholarly activity: 
Residents participate in the Resident Research Study Curriculum, a group exercise designed to teach the fundamentals of research in the context of a project selected by the group. Each resident writes a paper each year and has a time in the EM 3 and EM 4 to engage in scholarly activity.

Each resident is certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Health as a Base Command experience. The EMS rotation provides a rich exposure to rural, suburban, and municipal EMS services so the resident can develop the skills needed to effectively interface with EMS providers. Residents serve as instructors in the EMS division, assisting the training of EMS providers. The EMS division also offers significant experience in mass gathering medicine at citywide events and collegiate sporting events and well as hazardous materials training, swift water and aerial rescue training. EMS relating training opportunities: EM residents with an interest in Disaster Management and EMS can combine the Fellowship with their residency and complete a 6 year course of study in 5 years while earning a Masters in Disaster Medicine from the Philadelphia University.
