Become One (Top)

During the 2011-2012 planning year, the SAEM Foundation Development Committee is posing a challenge to all SAEM members. Let us stand united, have one voice, for one cause, donate to encourage development of our specialty and together we will become one. The Foundation understands the economy has been rough on everyone that is why we ask for you just to donate what you can afford and become one with us. This challenge comes to the SAEM membership beginning in October 2011 and will run through the 2012 Annual Meeting in Chicago. Anyone who rises to the challenge and wishes to become one, will be entered into a drawing to win an iPad 2, to be given away at the conclusion of the challenge. I definitely agree with all the comments that lead us to trust the team to decide how to handle the absence and re-integration of the team member. Also, I like the questions that focus attention on how we define an emergency as a group. I would also ask some future oriented questions about what our guidelines should be in the future when a crisis pulls a team member away. What norms will the team agree to with regard to cancellations? Would it be appropriate for the missing person to send an appointed replacement for one session? How does a missing member impact our progress? How will absent members be informed of session outcomes? How can we inform our supervisors about the importance of being fully committed to the Action Learning process? and so on.

Oh dear, I hope everything's all right. My mom gellnarey bakes cookies for my friends if she hears they're having a bad time, and I'm sure she'd happily send some oatmeal raisin cookies to Mark if that would in any way help the situation. Frisbee, etc.

The EMT-Basic course uullsay only lasts for a semester or so (about 3 months part time studies). I don't think you even need a GED to get into the program, although it depends on which state you live in. EMT's can perform basic medical exams and procedures, administer oxygen, and assist the patient with prescribed medications. It's kind of an entry level position in the emergency medical career ladder. To become an EMT-Paramedic you uullsay have to go to school for one to two years, and graduate with either a certificate (one year) or associate's degree (two years). You uullsay need a GED or high school diploma to get into the program (I only had a GED and had no problem getting accepted). The training is a lot more intense than the Basic course. The paramedic student will learn how to perform intubations, read a cardiac monitor, and administer up to 60 different drugs (depending on the service you work for). At my service, I make 50% more than a Basic makes. If you are considering making EMS your career, it might be a good idea to go to paramedic school. You get to do more for your patient, and make more money doing it, too!Hopes this helps!
