Interest Groups

Interest Groups

Interest Groups provide a mechanism for members of the Society interested in a specific topic or area to meet and network in a relatively unstructured, informal, and low-cost fashion. They may be formed by a request to the Executive Director from a group of at least ten members, with a primary contact person for the Interest Group identified. Minimum membership for an Interest Group is 20, but the groups have 2 years to reach this critical mass. SAEM provides a listserv to any Interest Group that has at least 20 members. Interest Groups do not receive goals or directives from the President or Board, and have no definite term or duration; however, activities of Interest Groups should be conducted in accordance with existing SAEM policies and procedures. Free membership in one Interest Group is offered to all SAEM members, with an annual fee of $25.00 for each additional Interest Group membership.

Interest Groups usually meet at the Annual Meeting and occasionally at other times. SAEM will provide space for Interest Group meetings during the Annual Meeting if a request is received no later than four weeks prior to the meeting. Interest Groups are required to submit a report to the Board each year (just after the Annual Meeting) supplying information about their activities. A link to a one-page form for this report will be made available here at the beginning of the Annual Meeting.

Please review the Interest Group Orientation Guidelines for specific information on the development and organization of an Interest Group.
