Membership Brochure

The Society for Academic Emergency Medicine is the academic voice of emergency medicine and has nearly 5,000 members from medical schools and teaching institutions in the United States and throughout the world. The Society brings together diverse individuals who are interested in the pursuit of knowledge and the promotion of academic emergency medicine. The membership includes faculty, basic and clinical researchers, residents, medical students, and other interested emergency medical services personnel.

Membership benefits include a subscription to the monthly journal, Academic Emergency Medicine, the official journal of SAEM; a subscription to the SAEM Newsletter, published six times per year; a reduced registration fee to the SAEM Annual Meeting; an Annual Membership Directory and Annual Report, which includes the activities of the Society in the past year, as well as the names, addresses, phone, fax, and e-mail addresses of the membership; and a membership certificate suitable for framing (for active and associate members).

In addition, SAEM provides opportunities to present and discuss original research with national and international colleagues; interact with colleagues who are researchers and teachers of emergency medicine with similar interests, such as research directors, residency program directors, undergraduate education directors, etc.; to learn about faculty development from nationally recognized Emergency Medicine faculty; to learn and discuss the most recent developments in clinical and basic science research in Emergency Medicine; to join committees, task forces, and interest groups that focus on the many aspects of academic Emergency Medicine; to participate in the development of consensus documents and position papers; and to learn about careers in academic Emergency Medicine.

SAEM is pleased to offer a group discounted resident membership program. The discount program allows residents/fellows to remit their dues at only $90 per year per person, rather than the full $105 rate. This $90 rate applies to both new residents and current residents renewing their membership. The requirements for this reduced rate are: 1) At least 80% of the residents/fellows in your program must remit and/or renew their membership to receive the discount, and 2) All dues payments must be forwarded to SAEM in one package. Payment can be made by forwarding one check for all applicants or individual checks for each applicant.

Resident member benefits include the SAEM monthly journal, Academic Emergency Medicine, the SAEM Newsletter, which is published six times a year; and a greatly discounted registration fee to attend the SAEM Annual Meeting.
