Academic Emergency Medicine Journal

AEM online at www.aemj.org!

Introduction

Academic Emergency Medicine (AEM), established in 1994, is a peer-reviewed journal whose goal is to advance the science, education, and clinical practice of emergency medicine, to serve as a voice for the academic emergency medicine community, and to enhance the goals and objectives of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine.

One of the guiding principles of the journal is to serve the academic emergency medicine community by thoughtful and thorough peer-review. In 2004, AEM received 661 new submissions and 223 revisions for a total of 884 processed manuscripts with a decision made in 29.1 days (average) for new submissions in July - December, 2004. Despite the substantial number of high quality manuscripts, publication is generally possible within 6-7 months after final acceptance.

Academic Emergency Medicine is the official journal of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine and has over 5,000 individual subscribers, plus access through medical libraries, universities, hospitals, and academic centers worldwide.

AEM had an ISI citation impact factor of 1.844 in 2003, which increased in 2004 to 1.898 -- a significant increase and a notable achievement for such a young journal. Substantial continued growth is anticipated, supported by an editorial board comprised of leading teachers and researchers.

The journal is published by Hanley & Belfus, Inc., an affiliate of Elsevier, and is now online (http://www.aemj.org/). Each May issue of AEM is comprised of the abstracts of over 500 scientific presentations from the SAEM Annual Meetings.

Academic Emergency Medicine welcomes submissions from emergency physicians and related specialists from around the world. Full details are included below. Questions may be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief, Michelle Biros, MD, at biros001@umn.edu.
