Considering a Career in Emergency Medicine?

The medical student virtual advisor program is intended for medical students from schools without an affiliated EM residency program who are considering a career in Emergency Medicine. Other students with special interests may seek an advisor with similar interests. It will link the student to an Emergency Medicine faculty advisor who will be available to answer questions regarding Emergency Medicine as a career and act as an advisor/mentor throughout the residency application process.

Each year during the SAEM Annual Meeting an Emergency Medicine Medical Student Symposium is held. The Symposium is designed to help medical students understand residency and career options in Emergency Medicine, develop an optimal senior year schedule, evaluate residency programs, and navigate the residency application process. Medical students learn to recognize and begin management of common and potentially life threatening problems, which present to the emergency department. A Medical Student/Resident Visual Diagnosis Photography Contest is held at the SAEM Annual Meeting. Small prizes are awarded and winners are acknowledged in the SAEM Newsletter.
