Nominations are sought for the SAEM elections that will be held in the Spring of 2012. Interested members are encouraged to review the appropriate SAEM orientation guidelines (Board, Secretary/Treasurer or President-elect) to consider the responsibilities and expectations of an SAEM elected position. Orientation guidelines are available at www.saem.org or from the SAEM office.

During the 2011-2012 planning year, the SAEM Foundation Development Committee is posing a challenge to all SAEM members. Let us stand united, have one voice, for one cause, donate to encourage development of our specialty and together we will become one. The Foundation understands the economy has been rough on everyone that is why we ask for you just to donate what you can afford and become one with us. This challenge comes to the SAEM membership beginning in October 2011 and will run through the 2012 Annual Meeting in Chicago. Anyone who rises to the challenge and wishes to become one, will be entered into a drawing to win an iPad 2, to be given away at the conclusion of the challenge. SAEM/Physio-Control EMS Fellowship (Top)

The Emergency Medical Services Research Fellowship Grant strives to foster teaching, education, and research in emergency medicine. Through the generous support of Physio-Control, this fellowship in emergency medical services (EMS) provides an opportunity for a qualified emergency physician to acquire important skills and begin to develop expertise as part of an academic career with a focus in EMS. The mission of the grant is to develop the academic potential of the selected fellow by providing support for a one-year training fellowship that develops both EMS leadership and research. Potential for, and experience with, EMS leadership and research will be weighted equally when evaluating applications. Leadership will include, but will not be limited to, involvement with administration, education, and prehospital medical direction. AAMC 2011 Annual Meeting (Top)
Join us for the Association of Academic Chairs of Emergency Medicine/ Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Joint Academic Session at the AAMC 2011 Annual Meeting at the Hyatt Regency, Denver, CO, Centennial H Room, November 5, 2011 from 8:00am – 12:00pm. Support fellow SAEM members as they discuss the rapidly changing U.S. healthcare environment, emergency departments have an uncertain fit, despite the fact that 40-50% of inpatient admissions to an academic medical center originate in the Emergency Department. How should the Academic Medical Center consider and quantify the value of emergency medicine, in service, teaching and research and how should emergency medicine be valued in an ACO model? A panel of experts from public health, emergency medicine and health services research will discuss possible future models for the emergency care system and academic emergency medicine. SAEM is looking for 15 energetic, self-starting, responsible, and enthusiastic medical students to work with the SAEM Program Committee at the Annual Meeting in Chicago, May 9-12, 2012. The Program Committee is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of SAEM’s Annual Meeting. It is comprised of nearly 40 faculty members selected by the President of SAEM from Emergency Medicine programs all over the country.

Voluntary Research Study (Top)
Academic EM faculty are invited to participated in a voluntary research study on the current activities, responsibilities, and career goals of faculty in EM programs across the country. The study is a one-time anonymous online survey that should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. The study aims to improve our understanding about how to support and advance the work of faculty in academic emergency medicine. This study has been approved by the Institutional Review Board at Rhode Island Hospital.
