2012 Annual Meeting - Chicago (Top)

It is never too early to hear about all the great and wonderful things occurring with the upcoming 2012 Annual Meeting in Chicago. Yes, the 2011 Annual Meeting may have just successfully finished two months ago; but in fact, those first few months afterwards is when the work truly begins as the Program Committee takes all the suggestions, comments, positive and negative feedback, and determines how best to serve the society by updating/altering the Annual Meeting. I am proud to say come May 9, 2012, the Annual Meeting will be home to a Junior Faculty Forum, a revised Chief Resident Forum (now entitled the Resident Leadership Forum with AM sessions for both chief residents and residents who want to become leaders in EM and dedicated PM sessions for chief residents), daily themed networking events, various new pilot programs such as combined abstract/didactic sessions, more lightning orals but without the slide requirement, a new schedule with less conflict and having similar presentations flow into one another, a new spin on IEME, and more! Why ruin the surprise?

Any additional suggestions or thoughts about the Annual Meeting, please don’t hesitate to contact me at mhoch74@gmail.com.

Plus don’t forget, the Didactic Submission Platform is now open until Sept 7th 5pm CST. It’s brand new and easy to use, utilizing the same technology as last year’s abstract submission platform. The link is: 2012 SAEM Didactic Submissions. Instructions on how to use the platform can be found on the SAEM Website or via the link. Any issues or help needed on didactics, please contact either our didactic subcommittee co-chairs Megan Ranney, megan_ranney@brown.edu, or Chris Ross, cross@ccbh.org, or me.

Sincerely,
Michael Hochberg, MD
Chairman, SAEM 2012 Program Committee

Distinguished Educator Awards Program (Top)

Dear members of SAEM,

As was discussed at the June CORD Business Meeting, we are happy to take the first step in the inaugural activity of the CORD Academy for Scholarship in Education in Emergency Medicine, The Distinguished Educator Awards program. The Distinguished Educator Award will be offered in four categories:

1) Teaching/Evaluation
2) Enduring Educational Materials
3) Educational Research
4) Educational Leadership

You may apply in one of the four categories. In order to apply for this award, you must be a member of CORD, and meet the criteria as described on the webpages below. Note that while you must undergo an extensive process with rigorous criteria. Since this Awards program is criterion-based, there is no limit to the number of Awards granted in any given year. The application for this award and the accompanying application materials, including standard setting examples to guide you in the eligibility and application process, are now live on the CORD website at: CORD Academy for Scholarship in Emergency Medicine In addition to the descriptions and guidelines noted there, we will also assist you in the application process via a Webinar, conducted by Dr. Nancy Searle, EdD at Baylor School of Medicine. Dr. Searle developed this process at Baylor, and assisted a number of other institutions in implementing a similar awards program.

This Webinar will be held on: September 28th at 3:00 ET

The Webinar will be open to all interested applicants, and details regarding signing on to the Webinar for this presentation will be distributed to you shortly. The Webinar will also be available on the CORD website following the presentation. We are also soliciting for judges for the Distinguished Educator Awards. Please note that judges are also permitted to apply for all categories of the Award at the same time if desired. Please contact me at jlamanti@nshs.edu if you have an interest in being a judge. Judges will also have an opportunity to participate in two additional Webinars with Dr. Searle. The first webinar will provide guidance and instruction on the judging criteria and process. The second webinar will focus on reviewing and judging the submitted applications for the awards. These Webinars are scheduled on January 16, 2012 at 3:00 ET and February 15, 2012 at 3:00 ET, respectively. Instructions and details about participation will be sent at a later date.

The deadline for submission of applications is January 10, 2012 Applications received after the deadline date will be considered in the next application cycle in 2013. Applications are to be submitted to the CORD office, to the attention of Amy Will, awill@cordem.org. The names of the Award recipients will be announced on March 1, 2012 and recipients will be given their awards at a special Distinguished Educator Awards presentation at Academic Assembly in April 2012.

We are excited to begin the process of recognizing the considerable achievements of the CORD community of educators in educational scholarship, and look forward to receiving your applications. Please contact me if you have any questions.

CumprimentosAbdul Karim

With havin so much content do you ever run into any iseuss of plagorism or copyright violation? My site has a lot of unique content I've either authored myself or outsourced but it looks like a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my authorization. Do you know any techniques to help protect against content from being ripped off? I'd genuinely appreciate it.

that 15 minutes is a very short set, espcieally for the bands that they enjoyed watching and would have liked to see perform longer. Since 5 extra minutes would allow for an extra song from each band (if they even choose to play the extra five minutes!), and since 5 more minutes would allow plenty of time to fix any technical difficulties that could possibly arise, I, and many other people interested in attending this year's Battle of the Bands, attendees and bands alike, sincerely and strongly urge the Program Council to add just 5 minutes to the allotted set time. Please consider this request! Thanks!
