Many faculty members involved in educating residents and medical students have not had formal teaching training. Formal teaching training has been shown to have a positive effect on faculty evaluations, which are widely used to assess teaching performance. These evaluations are being increasingly considered in faculty promotion and incentive plans. Not all faculty involved in resident or student education have the time and/or resources to dedicate to extended training in medical education.
This is a revised boot camp designed as a medical educator’s teaching boot camp. It is based on the MED ED Bootcamp that we have presented successfully for the past three years. Often educators learn their trade via “see one, do one, teach one.” During this workshop we will teach educators the fundamentals of teaching through facilitated discussions, application, and practice.
This will be a short, intensive, easily accessible course covering fundamental topics in medical education may provide a solution to this dilemma.
